This week I broke lot of rules of LinkedIn, I thought I could manage through though low engagements, even to my post, little did I have time to reply comments or feedbacks. Though, the impression dropped ( oh it really), but I'm feeling grateful for the journey, because this week has been an event full of learning and growth. Not at all my plan! I actually planned to talk about the major misconceptions of content writers who teach writing skills to others. Still, I was burdened to put this out instead. So, let the spirit lead. To you reading this, this is my story. I've given up on my dreams like you did. MY JOURNEY INTO CONTENT WRITING Prt 1. I was probably twenty years old when my University roommate, Esther, sent me a screenshot she took from one of her contacts on WhatsApp. It was a job advert for an article writer. I had never done any professional article writing before, all I did was scribble words in my head and made them into fine pieces I could post with beautiful Canva backgrounds. She knew I wrote and was constantly rambling about how everyone I knew had a job while I was just there. That was why she sent the screenshot. At first I panicked and all I could think of was “What if I get rejected? Or what if I get it, and then screw it?” I told Esther how I felt about it and she advised that I apply regardless. The application process was simple. I was given a topic and asked to write an 800-word article on it. I believe the topic was about a drug. I went to Google, downloaded about 3 different materials for comparing and contrasting purposes and I got writing. I've always been good with summary writing, probably my best type of writing, it was how I read for exams, and how I wrote my assignments back in Uni. So this was easy peasy! So easy peasy that when I submitted my work, I was rejected because you had not met the 800-word criteria. In another word, it was lesser than 800 words. I instantly gave up. I had never worked a day in my life, what did I know of being persistent? But when Esther asked about the job and I told her what happened, she said; “So you gave up?” I can still remember the look of half-disgust half-disbelief on her face. “Instead of you to try again and make it up to 800-words then submit!” She chided. I was embarrassed the idea didn't cross my mind, but my shame didn't stop me from trying as Esther had suggested. I rewrote the article. Ever wonder why some content sticks with you while other pieces fade away? The secret is structure.  Since my language teaching days, I have emphasised this to all my students and Juniors in Content Writing. Structure is the key to transforming content from forgettable to memorable and here's how you can do it. - Pour Your Ideas: Put everything you have on a page. Go with the flow and embrace the chaos. - Categorize Ideas: Gather common ideas under subheadings to form paragraphs. Add any extra information needed to round them out. - Arrange Cohesively: Think from the reader’s perspective. What do they already know? What do they need to know next? Create a list of questions about your topic, then order them naturally, like a conversation. Your sections might follow a chronological order or group related ideas together, like seating compatible guests at a dinner party. - Organize Within Paragraphs: Once your broad structure is sorted, go paragraph by paragraph, organizing your notes within each one using the same technique. - Start Preparing The Draft: Now you have a clear, cohesive blueprint to start drafting your piece. Any writer would agree that to arrive at the final draft, you must go through multiple steps. There's a common myth about social media ghostwriting and it needs to be corrected: "If you work with a ghostwriter, your content won't sound like you." Here's the truth: My first 'official' ghostwriting client was an agency owner in Morocco. We never met in person, and at first, I worried. How could I capture someone's voice through a screen? Even abracadabra won't work in this case. On our first call, I was nervous. But as we talked, I found myself writing notes not on what he said but how he said it. I listened to how he phrased his words, explained his ideas. You could hear his passion through the phone. The way he peppered his speech with Arabic phrases. His habit of using simple words to explain complex concepts. I studied his existing content, noting his favorite topics and phrases. I asked about his business philosophy, his proudest moments, his experiences with clients. Bit by bit, I built a 'voice profile' as unique as a fingerprint. When I delivered the first batch of posts, it banged. No kidding. His audience could hear him speaking to them. An old customer "remembered" him after the post. It was here I realised Good ghostwriting is writing for you. Great ghostwriting is writing AS you. Great ghostwriting is like being an observer. We don't invent a new voice; we study, practice, and replicate the one already existing. The one in your head. So if you're worried about losing your authentic voice on social media, don't be. A skilled ghostwriter does not replace your voice. We amplify it and help it reach across oceans and hit your goals. After all, authenticity is not only appreciated It is your superpower. P. Yesterday, I submitted a copy to one of my client and somehow she accused me of using ChatGPT. She said that no one can write such perfect copy. I was a little taken aback from such accusation because what kind of a copywriter would I be if I copied from ChatGPT. I didn't know what to answer her. So, what should I do in such a situation? I never aimed to become a content writer. I guess nobody does in the first instance. Rarely a day passes when I think if writing is really meant for me. This industry is dynamic. When you are an expert in a niche, it's difficult to find a job because everything can't suit you. But it's also difficult to get a job and have no niche because no one trusts you. They need experts but also those who are adaptable with everything. Is that possible? I have seen the majority who think writers can be replaced using A I. Thus, observed using the same. I have seen people having the mindset that writers are so desperate that any pay will suffice. Resulting, the majority of writers are underpaid. It's very easy to assume. That A.I. has cut down our work. That content structure idea is just a click away. Brainstorming is no longer necessary. What writers are doing these days? How okay are they to evolve in this dynamic environment with degradation? 7 out of 10 writers are planning to switch their jobs. Around 40% of full-time freelancers have to take full-time jobs for money. It's a lot of competition. It's everywhere. But it's different here because everyone just wants to try to do everything. Why? To earn. A health writer working as an entertainment writer. A content editor now writing for a client too. An entertainment writer, considered a not-so-expert in the recognised field. Nothing is easy. But this just piles up the anxiety. In this industry, castles shatter every day. Promises to build skyscrapers are made. But I can't even see the foundation. It's very easy to take for granted. To consider freelancers having no expertise in fields. To seize the deal and hand it to someone who charges less. It's an everyday thing here. When I started, I was told to change my career path. I rejected them. Something caught my attention. A sentence was written on both mirrors. It says; "The object you can see appear closer than you think" I keep meditating on that sentence till I got to my destination. I know most drivers understand what that sentence means and follow the instructions closely and those who don't end up paying for it. This statement registered something in my mind. The message for me was that "THE FUTURE APPEARS CLOSER THAN WE THINK". The future isn't far anymore. That illusion that makes us think the future is far is just deceiving us. Can you remember your last birthday? I know you can. And most of us have added another year. This shows how close we are to our future. The mindset that makes us think the future is still far is keeping many individuals from sowing today. You must begin to live your lives with a sense of purpose. You need to make quality and long-term decisions that will yield great results. You need to quit wasting time on non-essentials and start working on something productive. You need to toss procrastination aside and get to work. You need to start consuming specific knowledge that will program you for success. Quit feeding on junk information. The future you seek is closer than you think. If you don't want to live in regret, biting your fingers and wishing you had been serious with your life. Make quality decisions today and take consistent action. You can still plan the future you desire and work towards it. It is not too late. Now is the time! Not tomorrow! I want a bright future too. You drive potential clients away because of this 1 silly writing mistake, It's a sneaky little one that you often neglect. But before I begin, Let me take you down memory lane. Where we were little munchkins in class, Watching our English teacher's lips move. Then the topic, “Punctuation marks.” Hold up. Yes, that topic. Now, let's get back to LinkedIn. In the name of formatting and not-editing. We often misuse those important marks. May I share some examples with you: ❌ Let's kick grandpa. ✅ Let's kick, grandpa. ❌Spare him not, take him. ✅Spare him, not take him. ❌I invited my client a prostitute, and her PA to brunch. ✅I invited my client, a prostitute, and her PA to brunch. The last example almost cost me my client, If I didn't edit it right on time.🤧 (*Just kidding). Truth is, Your punctuations can save a life or lose it🌚. I know you want to make your posts aesthetically beautiful, And you want to quickly hit the ‘publish’ button. Stop to think. Just what if my punctuations went wrong? Now to you. Why did I stop working with a client who was ready to give me $100 for the project? The previous month, I got a client from Fiverr who needed help with writing some Quora answers and giving her company some reviews. We initially settled on a price of $55 but as I progressed, the workload started to feel a little too much. I made her understand the complete proposition, and after some to and fro, she was ready to pay me $100, given I do some extra work, too. But I quickly realised it wasn't going to work out. What she was expecting and what I could deliver was very different. We were not on the same page. As soon as I realised that, I let her know it all. I told her that this was not going as I had thought, and it was in her best interest, too, to end working on this project with me. We settled on 40 dollars for all the work I'd put in. I still lost a good $60, but I couldn't have been happier with what I did when I could have easily manipulated her and extracted the whole amount. Lesson learnt: communicate with the client, be honest and if you can't deliver the results they are expecting, let them know and discuss how you should proceed further.

One of the things I do while editing a manuscript is to get into the character of the target audience. If I were to buy this book, does the content justify what the title promises? Writing a valuable book is one thing; ensuring the value aligns with what the title promises is another thing. Don't lose focus. If your book title says, "CEO WIFE: How to balance your role as a boss with your duties as a wife" Make sure your book is solving the concerns it promises. A CEO wife must be able to learn how to balance both roles with your book. Don't digress into other irrelevancies. Keep it compact and straightforward. Also remember, the book addresses CEO wife. Use relevant scenarios or examples that resonate with someone of her standard. Quality will always matter over Quantity. What can I do to get noticed as a writer? Can I be honest with you? You are a newbie or aspiring writer who is just starting. One of the problems you are facing currently is that your content is not getting notice I was once there before but I tell you it is easy to get noticed as a writer. So I will be sharing with you a few ways of getting noticed as a writer. 1️⃣ Understand the Algorithm If you want to get noticed as a writer on social media, then you have to learn how the algorithm works The reason why most writers don't get noticed is because they ignore the aspect of studying the algorithm The get noticed, play the algorithm game. 2️⃣. Learn from the top 1% creators in your industry One I was able to get noticed as a writer is to learn from top creators in my industry I learned what they do, their style of content, and finally their thought process. 3️⃣ Leverage on storytelling This doesn't work only as a writer but in other industry One of the ways I have been able to get noticed is through the use of personal stories Sometimes I also use illustrations.
