From academics to sports, the prevailing mindset often pits individuals against one another rather than fostering a spirit of collaboration. While a bit of healthy competition can drive excellence, raising children with a hyper-competitive focus can have far-reaching negative impacts on their development and our society at large. The Academic Arena From a young age, Nigerian children are taught that academic success is paramount, often measured by how they rank against their peers. This mentality creates an environment where students are more concerned with outshining their classmates than with actual learning. The pressure to always come out on top can lead to anxiety, burnout, and a lack of genuine interest in subjects that aren't seen as competitive advantages. Social Implications This competitive mindset extends beyond academics and seeps into social interactions. In our society, we often see married women using their marital status to look down on or spite unmarried women. This kind of competition creates unnecessary tension and divides rather than builds up the community. It reinforces the notion that one's worth is measured against others' statuses, rather than personal growth and happiness. Day 2 at Women Radio Investigative Reporting Training sponsored by MacArthur Foundation. The training began with a tour to TVC COMMUNICATIONS, one of the best TV stations in Nigeria. There I got in contact with some renowned female personalities in the media space, including the women on the popular TV programme, “Your View”: Dr. Morayo Afolabi-Brown, Yeni Kuti, and Mariam Longe. ... As a journalist, I am very much aware of the challenges and pitfalls of my chosen field but with Dr. Suleiman Yar'Adua, I have come to realize that these challenges are much more prominent in the Investigative aspect of journalism, some of which may lead to the value of a journalist getting questioned or hinder a Journalist. From poor remuneration, poor funding, to lack of access to the necessary tools and resources needed to carry out investigations for a story idea, Investigative Reporting is indeed the most difficult and demanding spectrum of journalism, and these demands are what most journalists consider and see as reasons to avoid it. Besides writing matches reports, opinions, and features stories, to mention a few, the blurred and unspoken issues in the sports industry have also caught my attention. In terms of Youth development, Pay-To-Play and profiling of up-and-coming athletes, to what extent are Nigerian Sports Journalists addressing these issues? There's much to be done. In furtherance, with respect to Investigative journalism, I have come to realize the importance of fact-checking and digital manipulation. During the session with Maxine Gloria Danso, I was surprised by the prevalence of Photoshop, as well as doctored and fabricated contents, most of which are consumed by readers and viewers without verification. Just as the internet and every digital space servers as a platform for information, disinformation also thrives. I had a fantastic session familiarizing myself with tools to identify false images, videos and archived contents that are no longer available on the internet. …….. It's just a day to go here at the 3-day program. I'm glad to have been exposed to so much within a limited period of time. TOPIC: “THE VALUE PROPOSITION OF NEGATIVE PUBLICITY" The Lagos State Chapter of the NIPR ''PR Clinic'' held today, Thursday, May 02, 2024, had Dr. Monday Michaels Ashibogwu, a distinguished professional and CEO of The Republic Media Ltd & Director, Media Services, Channelkoos Media Consult Ltd, who was the guest lecturer, shared valuable insights into the intricate world of negative publicity and its impact on brand management. Dr. Ashibogwu began by highlighting the crucial distinction between negative and bad publicity. While negative publicity stems from various sources such as mishandled customer interactions or unfavorable information dissemination, bad publicity poses more severe threats to brand integrity and consumer trust. Brand guardians, as Dr. Ashibogwu referred to PR professionals, face numerous challenges in their roles. From the pervasive reach of word-of-mouth to contentious content from some music lyrics, understanding these components is essential for effectively navigating public perception. One key strategy discussed was the importance of reframing negative publicity. Dr. Ashibogwu emphasized that perception plays a paramount role in managing negative publicity. THE JOURNEY - TymWithCalebson I’ve always had a thing for streaming and hosting podcast. To make my dream come into reality, I decided to invest in my craft. I am the Founder and CEO of Ace Gamers(Ace Gamers Esports) Africa Mobile Championship and other high stake roles in the Africa esports community.  My industrious work with Esports Africa Tournament(Esports Africa Tournament) as tournament manager, and Esports Association Ghana(Esports Association, Ghana ) as call of duty mobile community lead. These skill set gave me the opportunity to work with one of the prestigious gaming studios in Africa ie Leti Arts(Leti Arts). As their Community Manager. I’ve had the opportunity to meet great personalities in the scene. This also gave me so much exposure and experience. I had much to put into the Edtech and Experiential leads with schools. TymWithCalebson, which I started February 2024 is to engage with gaming audiences and enthusiasts and help educate the community and people who do not understand the various paths in Esports. With good relationships with other stakeholders, I got motivated to invest more into it. Because I heavily invested into my esports teams across Africa. Just as I planned to put up a streaming setup, my rent was due. This affected my financial plans and ability to do what I had planned.  As though that wasn’t enough, my mum passed away. The heavy burden as an adult caused chills in my spine…. I had lots of encouragement from Eyram(Eyram Tawia) & other close friends. It honestly felt like my world was falling apart. One night after work, I prayed and thanked God for my life, but told the big man I’m tired and frustrated of this life. Nothing seems to be going my way. My doubts became stronger. At midnight after ranting bitterly, I had a text from a long-lost friend I had a good partnership with in web3.  “Calebson, God said I should help you. I know it’s been almost 8 months we texted. Tell me what you want to do.” I thought it was a dream, so I woke up from bed to use the washroom. Because urinating in dreams is one of the realistic things. Well, it happened I wasn’t in dreamland. I told him I want to build a setup for TymWithCalebson. To anyone reading this, when you see me saying “it’s TymWithCalebson!” Just know, good relationship with people comes a long way to solve our problems.  Good relationships, got my boss Eyram to advice and encourage me. It got me speaking to God. We do not have to let go of our big man (God). He’s with us through it all…..
