Learning through play lays the proper foundation for lifelong learning, contributing to children's overall development and foundational learning, equipping them with the skills they need to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. Play is considered children's "work" and is the vehicle through which children acquire knowledge and skills, allowing children to engage independently and with others. At AREAi, we believe that the foundational years of a child's education play a huge role in their academic performance in the future, which is why we integrate play as an essential strategy for learning in our Fastrack program. Learning without borders for children, regardless of who they are or where they are.
About us
Founded in 2014, Aid for Rural Education Access Initiative (AREAi) works with and in under-resourced schools and marginalized communities, providing technical and infrastructural support to scale learning outcomes and drive tangible academic achievement for poor and vulnerable children and youth from low-income families. Using a low-cost and sustainable education delivery model that hinges on bottle brick technology, competency-based curricula, accelerated learning approach and innovative pedagogical strategies, AREAi designs and implements effective alternative educational programs that bridge the gaps between education, skills development and employability for school-aged out-of-school children and youth, especially girls, that are missing out of education, employment or training. In principle, the organisation adopts communities that are extremely remote, with very basic or non-existent educational opportunities, then build makeshift community learning centers, recruit enthusiastic community volunteers who are trained to deliver a 10-months accelerated learning program that allows beneficiaries to develop skills around digital literacy, cognitive problem solving and critical thinking, verbal communication and entrepreneurial leadership. Over the next 10 years, working with school administrators, community stakeholders and governmental agencies, we plan to educate and empower 1 million out-of-school children and youth, leveraging innovation, collaboration and technology in creating multiple alternative and informal learning and empowerment opportunities. Between 2014 and now, AREAi have directly reached a combined population of over 16,000 beneficiaries in about 8 Schools and 21 communities such as Gambari, Eko ende, Apete, Nassarawa, Kano, Kaduna, Niger, Orozo, Ruga and Kaida Sabo Communities in Abuja Nigeria. We have received sponsorships and partnered with institutions such as National Library Board, Microsoft, MTN Foundation, The United Nations Department

“There is no substitute for books in the life of a child.” ~ May Ellen Chase Access to books plays a crucial role in fostering a love for reading and learning among children. However, schools in rural communities face unique challenges in obtaining a diverse range of books due to limited funding and resources. In collaboration with Let’s Talk Humanity @lthinitiative, we launched the inaugural Giving Tuesday event themed “Literacy Lift-Off” at the L.E.A Primary School, Kabusa. This event provides children with abundant opportunities to read books at their own competency levels, gradually enhancing their reading and writing skills. We distributed a variety of books tailored to each class’s curriculum, along with captivating storybooks that not only expand young minds but also ignite a lifelong passion for learning. For us, this event signifies more than just the provision of books; it represents an opportunity to inspire children to dream big, acquire knowledge, and achieve greatness. We are confident that this event will significantly impact education in Schools by harnessing the transformative power of books. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of countless children. #AREAi #AREAi4Africa #FoundationalLearning #Partnership #Collaboration #LetsTalkHumanity #LiteracyLiftOff

As we commemorate World Youth Skills Day today, we proudly celebrate the commitment and resilience of Doris, who is striving for knowledge and enhanced capacity to thrive in our ever-evolving world. Through our Digital Skills Accelerator for Girls and Women (DSA), Doris is learning the digital skills essential to excel in her dream job. Like every other girl in her class, she aspires to become a productive member of our community and contribute to our collective digital transformation. This year's theme, Youth Skills for Peace and Development, highlights the pivotal role young people play in peacebuilding and conflict resolution. With the skills she is acquiring, Doris is preparing for a successful career and empowering herself to be a force for peace and positive change in her community. As UN Secretary-General António Guterres said, "Today and every day, let's urgently work to transform education. Let's ensure that youth have what they need to build skills for shaping a more peaceful, sustainable future for all." This transformation is a possibility and a reality to which we actively contribute. Our collective focus on Basic Digital Skills for Learning equips these young women with the tools they need to navigate and positively impact our digital world. By empowering them with these skills, we are fostering individual growth and building a foundation for a more peaceful, sustainable future. #AREAi #AREAi4Africa #WorldYouthSkillDay #LearningWithoutBarriers #DigitalSkill #EducationForAll #DSA #DigitalEquity #EmpoweringYouths

Favour Ezekiel’s story is a testament to the impact of our innovative FastTrack solution at Aid for Rural Education Access Initiative (AREAi), and we are excited to share this short documentary with you. The effort at bridging the learning gaps in foundational skills development in literacy and numeracy is one that surpasses immediate outcomes for the personal progress and advancement of direct beneficiaries, but also reaches and impacts indirect beneficiaries - families, communities, and the society at large. This culminates into life transformation changes that transcend time and shapes positively the future of children living in rural and underserved communities, especially those who find themselves in crisis situations or are forced to find safety within Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camps across Nigeria. We hope you find this impact story of ours to be enlightening, encouraging your active participation in joining forces with us to make life more meaningful for more children like Favour through our FastTrack Initiative.
