FAMILIES

When Next Generation Scholars first began serving low-income youth, we quickly realized that educational achievement did not depend solely on what took place in the classroom.

We knew we had to address a more complex range of challenges in the community - from parents being unfamiliar with the college application process to broader issues such as child care, food insecurity, flawed immigration policies, lack of health care, unstable housing, and more.

Recognizing the need to support the entire family, we offer three family-oriented programs:

Family College

Provides parents and caregivers with the skills, resources, and tools they need to help their children access higher education and create a college-bound culture at home

Family and Community Engagement

Through partnerships with several organizations and businesses, our services include:

  • Employment Assistance
  • Food Resources
  • Housing Resources
  • Legal Assistance
  • Medical and Health Support
Little Scholars

During the pandemic, we saw our students juggle school online from their crowded homes with unreliable wifi while caretaking for their younger siblings and learning through Zoom. What started as games and tutoring online for ten students three years ago has grown to literacy, STEM, and wellness programming, a district partnership, and the resources of a 10-acre, local independent school campus for 36 students (1st-5th grade) this last summer. Applications will be available in April 2024 for next summer's Little Scholars program, which is forecasted to nearly double in size and impact.
