During a storm, if you're aware of power outages or severe flooding in your area, limit the water going down a drain. Even when you have power again, minimize water usage in dishwashers, washing machines, and bathtubs for at least a day. #WaitOnWastewater

🔋🔥 When it comes to the garbage or recycling cart, remove lithium-ion batteries from the equation.

These rechargeable batteries—the type found in smartphones, laptops, e-cigarettes, power tools, and more—can overheat and cause fires. When a fire breaks out on a garbage or recycling truck, the driver must quickly empty the vehicle's contents onto the roadway to reduce the chances of injury and damage. It's a hot mess!

Help protect our waste collection workers and the environment by properly disposing of lithium-ion batteries. Find a convenient battery disposal location at Call2Recycle.org/locator. You can also bring them to an Orange County household hazardous waste facility.

One way you can save water, and money on your bill, is with a rain sensor or shutoff device. These devices turn off your in-ground irrigation system when a set amount of rainfall has occurred. A functional rain sensor is required by law if you have an automatic irrigation system. Learn more about rain sensors and how to test yours at bit.ly/Rain-Gauges-Sensors.
