Hazel Janice D’Andrea, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2024, in Oklahoma City at the age of 99. She was born in El Reno, OK, in 1925 to Olen and Lena Ferguson. She graduated from El Reno High School on May 25, 1942, and moved to Oklahoma City to attend St. Anthony School of Nursing graduating with her RN degree on June 6, 1946. She met Rudy D’Andrea who was serving at Clinton Naval Air Base, and they were married on August 31, 1946, in Providence, RI. She worked as a Labor and Deliver post-partem nurse. In 1948 they moved to Midwest City where they raised their family. Jan and Rudy were charter members of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Midwest City where they both served as Ministers of the Eucharist and Greeters. After returning to Midwest City, she became a full-time homemaker. She was an amazing seamstress and quilter and made beautiful clothing and festive homemade Christmas ornaments each year for her children and grandchildren. Her hobbies included cross-stitch, puzzles and crossword puzzles, and cooking (known for her pie crust, peanut brittle, and spaghetti). Her recipes will continue to be handed down for generations. She was an avid reader and a serious sports fan. She had a sweet tooth and never met an ice cream she didn’t like. Jan loved her children unconditionally and was involved in their school life by serving as homeroom mother and library volunteer at Traub Elementary for years. Above all her greatest joy was being Gram to all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an ever-present force in their lives and endeavors, always in the stands or at the concert. She cheered them on from infant to successful adults and loved them fiercely. She was an animal lover, especially her cat, Bangles, and her dogs Buddy, Red, and Frosty. She enjoyed all kinds of music, plays, and travel. Jan was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rudolph Anthony D’Andrea; one son, Michael Anthony D’Andrea; her brother, O.R. Ferguson and his wife, Alta; her sister, Dora Wennell Ferguson Patterson and her husband, Pat; her half-sister, Ruth Frazier; and daughter-in-law, Karen D’Andrea. She is survived by her three children, Mark D’Andrea and wife, Rita of OKC, David D’Andrea of OKC, and Pamela D’Andrea Landry of Edmond; grandchildren, Paul D’Andrea and wife, Sasha of OKC, Matt D’Andrea and wife, Laura of Midwest City, Holly D’Andrea Read and husband, Chris of Conroe, TX, Emily Sewell Friddle and husband, Lance of Edmond, Scott Sewell of OKC, Chris D’Andrea and Heather of OKC, and Nathan D’Andrea and Chelsea of OKC; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Dominic, Sylvia, and Janie D’Andrea of Midwest City, Colton, Duke, and Ryker Friddle of Edmond, Austin Read of Conroe, TX, and Luke and Aiden D’Andrea of OKC; and a host of extended family and friends. We wish to express our sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff at St. Ann’s Retirement Center where Jan resided for the past 5 years for the love and care they showed her daily and to Dr. Baber who cared for her in her later years as well as Mercy Hospice and Bellevue Nursing Center staff. A visitation will be held at Barnes Friederich Funeral Home in Midwest City on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
