Virginia Kathleen “Kathy” (Oliver) Buxton of Duncan, Oklahoma passed away on July 6, 2024 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was 78.

Kathy is proceeded in death by her beloved husband, Bill and survived by her daughter Ginny and her husband Conner and their children Will, Brooks, and Ellie Searcy of Dallas; son Jim Buxton and his wife Katherine and their daughters Kneely and Gracie Buxton of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Born April 3, 1946 in Tulsa, Oklahoma the daughter of Richard and Virginia (Wheeler) Oliver. She graduated from Edison High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma and the University of Oklahoma. Kathy was proud to be the first woman accepted to the OU College of Dentistry. Kathy married Bill Buxton in Tulsa, Oklahoma on October 7, 1972, and celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary before his death in 2017.

Kathy lived in Duncan over 50 years where she devoted her time to education and the arts. During her tenure as a biology teacher at Duncan High School she was honored three times as Best Female Lecturer and twice as Teacher of the Year. Upon her retirement Kathy became an adjunct professor for Cameron University. Her passion for art and education intersected with her volunteer work at the Chisholm Trail Arts Council where her work with their Artists in Schools program led to Kathy being recognized in 2007 as an Honoree of the Governor’s Art Award. Kathy spent her last years using her accounting acumen to serve her church home, All Saints’ Episcopal Church.

Kathy wore many hats like business owner, gardener, card shark, grant writer, wallpaper hanger, computer programmer and self-taught chef to name a few. Nothing made her happier than spending time with friends and family, watching her past students succeed, and knowing each of her grandchildren closely.

Memorial services are planned for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the All Saints’ Episcopal Church at 809 W. Cedar, Duncan, Oklahoma, with a reception to follow. Burial will take place at 4 p.m. at Rose Hill Burial Park at 6001 NW Grand Boulevard, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
