Less than a month after police found a prominent California doctor dead inside the trunk of an abandoned car, News 3's search for answers has produced a glimpse inside the police investigation.

While Kelsey Turner’s was posing for her 100k followers on Instagram, Dr. Thomas Burchard lost his life. He was murdered.

Documents obtained by News 3, reveal what police found on that day in March in the far eastern reaches of Clark County, two miles off the main road.

A Mercedes high centered in the dirt, and a foul odor coming from the trunk. Blood, evidence of a small fire inside, and rubber gloves.

The partially clothed body of California psychiatrist Thomas Burchard was found with blunt injuries to his head.

However, who would do this to someone his girlfriend says was loved?

"Even though I had prepared myself, it was still a horrible shock," said Judy Earp, Burchard's girlfriend.

Judy Earp reported her doctor boyfriend missing but nothing came of it.

According to the documents, Judy got texts from Dr. Burchard but they didn’t sound like him.

So, she chalked it up to perhaps him having early onset Alzheimer's.

On her tip, police went to a home she believed may have answers in the area of Warm Springs Road and Amigo Street. There they found a lot of blood and efforts to clean it up.

Police believe the car, the house, and the blood tie Turner to the murder.

Still, what specifically is the relationship between Turner and the doctor? Police aren't going into a lot of detail, except that they knew each other, the doctor paid her rent, and for it, police say...he died.
