RADICAL IMAGINATION ARTIST GRANT

The NDN Radical Imagination Artist Grant is a two-year grant of $100,000 USD awarded to ten Indigenous artists, artist collectives, or small nonprofits who are deeply engaged with their communities to develop alternative visions of a new future.

RADICAL IMAGINATION PURPOSE & INTENT

The NDN Radical Imagination Artist Grant is a two-year grant of $100,000 USD awarded to ten Indigenous artists, artist collectives, or small nonprofits who are deeply engaged with their communities to develop alternative visions that inspire the Indigenous movement towards a new future and just world for all people and Mother Earth.

We value the work of grassroots efforts in community done by people of the community to dismantle oppressive systems and structures. We believe in the imagination of artists, culture bearers, and designers to create a future of Indigenous power and a world where we thrive.

We invite you to use your art and the Radical Imagination Artist grant as a platform to amplify your work as a viable solution.

Through the lens of NDN Collective’s mission to Defend, Develop and Decolonize, Radical Imagination Artists, Creatives, and Culture Bearers will:

  • Propose solutions to dismantle structural racism through their art & creativity
  • Imagine and practice justice within their communities while working to rebuild and assemble a better world
  • Amplify community voices to counter inequitable systems, policies, and practices

GRANT AMOUNTS

NDN Radical Imagination Artists will receive flexible cash awards of $100,000 USD ($50,000 USD per year) to support the development and amplification of their work.

GRANT REQUIREMENTS

All sections of the grant application need to be completed by the due date for it to be viable for review. As part of the application, applicants must propose a two-year budget that can include a living stipend, supplies, and equipment necessary to publicly amplify the proposed work. It is required that 12% of the budgeted funds be allotted to support artist’s self-care, health, and well-being.

Awarded grantees will be required to attend three online or in-person mandatory convenings over the grant years including the virtual Welcome & Orientation Convening, a virtual Annual Convening at the close of Year 1 of the grant, and a Final Artist Showcase Gathering

Awarded grantees are required to submit two reports throughout the two-year grant cycle, an annual report at the close of Year 1 and a final report at the close of Year 2.

ELIGIBILITY

This opportunity is open to Indigenous people 18 years and over who are living across the continental United States, Canada, Mexico, Islands of Hawaii, Borikén/Puerto Rico, and the U.S. territories of American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. 

This grant is open to Artists, Creatives, Culture-bearers, Storytellers who:

  • Are at any stage of their work life, but must have momentum, be visionary, and be on a journey within a movement for collective liberation.
  • Have demonstrated experience in producing or co-designing community art projects.
  • Have experience in managing funds, including any tax obligations.
  • Have a willingness to participate in broader community dialogue or participatory research.

  • New to the Grants Portal- If you are a first time user, you must register in order to receive log-in credentials to complete the grant application.  Please allow for up to 2 business days to receive login credentials.  Please check your email and spam or junk folders for your login credentials before inquiring further.  
  • Log-in Now –  If you’ve registered in the past for any NDN grant opportunity, please click Log-in Now. You do not need to register again.  

Helpful hints – 

  1. Use a computer or laptop to complete registration, log-in and/or initial application as the Fluxx website is not optimized for mobile devices.
  2. Chrome browser works best with the grant application online system.   
  3. Please be sure to register well in advance of the grant due date to ensure timely submission.

    Any attempts to register later than 5 p.m. CST / 4 P.M. CDMX on DATE does not guarantee submission by 5 p.m. CST / 4 p.m. CDMX due date on DATE.

  4. Please ensure that your organizational information is correct, i.e.;  contact information, email address; telephone number etc. Once it is submitted you cannot edit your profile information. 
  5. Once you’ve registered or logged in, you will receive information via email on how to access your portal and complete the application forms.
  6. It is best to start working on your application well in advance of the deadline to accommodate any unforeseen circumstances and to allow yourself enough time to complete all required sections and upload supporting documents.
  7. NDN cannot make any exceptions to the initial application/grant application due date. This includes incomplete applications, application mistakes due to user error, or faxed/emailed or mailed applications unless there has been prior approval by NDN Foundation staff.
