Attention: All Students, Faculty, Staff
Due to the anticipated trajectory and strength of Hurricane Dorian, and based on the information provided from the National Weather Service, Bethune-Cookman University, in conjunction with the Board of Trustees, President Dr. LaBrent Chrite is issuing a mandatory campus evacuation order effective Friday, August 30, 2019 at 5:00 p.m.
Students are directed to immediately begin making arrangements to evacuate the campus. All classes are canceled as of 12 Noon, Friday, August 30, until further notice, to allow students to safely travel in advance of the hurricane. All residence halls will close as of 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 30th and the dining hall will close at 6:00 p.m.
Students MUST evacuate the residence halls and campus by 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 30, 2019.
A return date for students, staff and faculty will be published via the website, email and social media once the hurricane has passed and it is safe to return to campus. Arrangements for athletic teams have been made in consultation with the Vice-President for Inter-collegiate Athletics and sports team coaches.
Faculty and Staff are expected to report for work on Friday, August 30, 2019, through the end of the normal workday. Staff and Faculty are expected to secure their offices and cover computers and other electronic devices with plastic garbage bags to minimize any water intrusion.
All students are strongly encouraged to
:
-Secure their personal belongings.
-Remove all contents from refrigerators.
-Unplug refrigerators and all electronics.
-Take all medications and valuables with you.
-Close and lock all windows.
First floor residents must remove personal belongings off the floor.
The University will not be responsible for items that are damaged as a result of a failure of students to comply with this order.
Students who are unable to evacuate the city will be transported to an area shelter.
Off-campus students are encouraged to report to a local shelter or take other precautions.

If you have not already done so, please download the “Wildcat SAFE App." Additional updates will be issued as we continue to monitor Hurricane Dorian. This Evacuation Order is being issued to protect the safety of our students, especially in light of the tremendous nature of this hurricane and in keeping with the information received in cooperation with state and local government agencies. A decision as to the return date for classes will be made and communicated at the appropriate time.
