We are less then 10 days to the Malaysia Carbon Market Forum 2024! As ASEAN member countries have always come together to realise common goals, 2025 could be a defining year to forge ahead together on sustainability. While the global stage continues to grabble with standards, confidence and market mechanisms - ASEAN can move the needle at home, and for each other. Our discussions in Plenary 3 will centre around “Creating a High Integrity ASEAN Carbon Market, Facilitating Supplies of High-Quality Carbon Credits.” Thinking about how we can mobilise the private-sector to support the creation of high-quality carbon credits in the region, and how stakeholders can come together to create a high-integrity ASEAN carbon market that is greater than the sum of all domestic carbon markets and exchanges? Get these questions answered and many more with Gloyta Nathalang from Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited, Thailand Carbon Markets Club, & Thailand Carbon Neutral Network (TCNN), Aruna Pradipta from Fairatmos, Dr Renard Siew from Yinson, Dang Hanh from VNEEC, and Fauziah Marzuki from BloombergNEF. What holds for the compliance carbon markets in the region? Our second panel session at the Malaysia Carbon Market Forum 2024 explores the strategic implications of “Compliance Carbon Markets: Article 6 and Domestic Carbon Pricing Instruments.” Our expert panellists will explore the various government-driven initiatives and approaches to carbon pricing and the recognition of offsets, exploring how these mechanisms aligns with each nation’s broader climate ambitions, unpacking the context and approaches towards policy design and the operationalisation of these mechanisms across the different jurisdictions. Listen in to interesting debates such as: should there be distinctions between Article 6 credits and voluntary carbon credits; how to avoid fragmentation in the market; if the harmonisation of Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes (ITMOs), related documents and practices would be necessary. The session also discusses broader impacts such as if the use of credits should be allowed in Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanisms (CBAM) compliance, and what are some of the complexities faced. Apart from exploring the outlook for Article 6 within a regional context, there will also be a debate on whether a regional marketplace would be something to be explored and if so, how it could look like for ASEAN. This session will feature Kasia Klaczynska Lewis from EY and our panellists YBhg. Datuk Dr Ching Thoo from Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES), Dr. Wahyu Marjaka from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of Indonesia and Fam Wee Wei from the Ministry of Trade and Industry (Singapore) To find out more, please visit: https://lnkd.in/gqVeUjas #MCMF24 #BCX #IETA #VCM
