Djokovic Slams Wimbledon Crowd For Booing During Win
Novak Djokovic said that the Center Court crowd at Wimbledon used the Holger Rune chant as an “excuse to boo” during the match. Djokovic beat Rune 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in the fourth round encounter; however, his errors, along with Rune’s winners, were met with cries of “Ruuuuune” by the crowd. “I know they were cheering for Rune, but that’s an excuse to also boo. I have been on the tour for more than 20 years. I know all the tricks. I played in much more hostile environments; trust me, you guys can't touch me,” said Novak Djokovic. Djokovic, who is aiming to win a record-leveling eighth Wimbledon title this year, has had a strenuous relationship with the crowd at SW19. The 24-time Grand Slam winner was booed after he blew a kiss to fans after defeating British player Cam Norris in the 2022 semifinals. Rune was also asked about the alleged booing after the game, and he reiterated that the fans were in fact just chanting his name. Djokovic, who is set to play Australian ninth seed Alex de Minaur in the quarterfinals, later made light of the situation, wishing everyone a “gooooood night”.
