The current exhibition, GTA24, features artists with connections to the Greater Toronto Area. Through collage-making, this activity focuses on personal relationships to our communities. By layering paper, magazine cut-outs, and drawings – the same technique and medium as GTA24 artist P.Mansaram’s series titled Rear View Mirror – these collages explore shape, texture, and representations of home.

This activity draws on themes of place and community from the GTA24 exhibition. Through the works of sculpture artist Jes Fan, consider what can grow in the Greater Toronto Area, and create works of art inspired by local fruits, vegetables, and plants. Each participant will try relief printmaking using foam blocks and ink stamping pads. You will make small botanical stamps and create prints on paper, then, together your group can make a community garden mural.

In Sukaina Kubba’s work Enclave Exclave, she examines a rug that has been in her family for generations by drawing with a 3D printing filament pen. Reflecting on this artwork, participants will try their hand at paper weaving. You will begin by drawing colourful patterns, then cut the paper into strips, and finally weave them together into a new work of art. Participants will have the opportunity to collaborate and consider the exhibition themes of community and connection. This activity, like GTA24, celebrates each artist’s perspectives and differences coming together like a woven tapestry.
