Hands-on Les Mills XR Bodycombat: Does this DLC make one of the best VR fitness apps even better?

Odders Lab recently released the first content DLC for Les Mills XR Bodycombat, and I tried it out for you on Meta Quest 3.

At the end of May, the development team behind Les Mills XR Bodycombat, Odders Lab, released the first major content DLC for the VR fitness app. This was good news for many fans, as it means that Les Mills XR Bodycombat will not be moving to a subscription model like its competitors FitXR or Supernatural. Instead, DLCs will be released on a regular basis to help fund further development of the VR app. In the following hands-on on my Quest 3, I will tell you if the first expansion called "Power Strike" is worth it.

Power Strike DLC for Les Mills XR Bodycombat: What's in it?

As mentioned in the announcement, the Power Strike DLC for Les Mills XR Bodycombat costs $7.99. For that, you get 20 new songs, eight new workouts, new moves and the new "Arena of the Brave" environment.

Also new: a golden platform and golden boxing gloves. You will only see the new environment in the eight DLC courses, while the platform and gloves will appear in all other courses after you purchase the DLC.

Power Strikes have it all

With the newly introduced Power Strikes, Les Mills XR Bodycombat's arsenal of moves continues to grow. In addition to the classic jab, uppercut and hook, you can also use T-strikes, hammer strikes, knee smashes, elbow smashes, speedball punches and now power strikes.

This new type of punch requires you to charge up your punch and use at least 70 percent of your punching power to generate points. Power Strikes are perfectly integrated into the flow of the workout, giving you enough time to recharge between quick combinations.

When you execute a Power Strike, a bar appears in your field of vision to indicate how much power you put into the strike. The power strikes alternate, sometimes as a jab, sometimes as a hammer, and sometimes as an uppercut.

Fancy Arena and Cosmetics

During your first training session, the new Arena of the Brave will build up in front of you. Huge golden lion statues adorn the side of the track, and above you is a cloudy sky with the evening sun shining through. Nice lighting effects on the track complete the golden picture.

The new gloves are a bit more subtle than the previous ones and are decorated with various golden elements. Together with the new platform, they fit perfectly into the arena. Of course, the cosmetics quickly fade into the background and are hardly noticeable during the fast-paced training sessions.

My verdict on the Power Strikes DLC

Odders Lab really delivers with the Power Strike DLC, and not just visually. The expansion adds the new Power Strikes to the already varied set of moves in a sensible way, without overusing them.

However, the eight new workouts are clearly aimed at advanced players. Those just starting out with Les Mills XR Bodycombat will quickly be overwhelmed. Everyone else should enjoy the new challenges right away.

An absolute must for fans of Les Mills XR Bodycombat and VR fitness.
