Margaret H. Connolly

Margaret H. (Peggy) Connolly of Yulan, NY, died Friday, July 5, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Place. She was 93.

She was born January 20, 1931 in Manhattan, NY, the daughter of the late Patrick Hughes and the late Mary (Brennan) Hughes.

She married Vincent J. Connolly in 1951 and raised their family of four in the Bronx, New York.

Surviving are her beloved children, Timothy Connolly and his wife Anne of Blauvelt, NY William Connolly and his wife Cynthia of Warwick, NY, Maureen Donnelly and her husband James of Eldred, NY; her loving grandchildren, William Connolly and his wife Katelin, Elizabeth Carton and her husband Bill, Nicholas Connolly and his wife Kelly, Daniel Connolly, Brian Connolly and his wife Kristen, Christine and Erin Donnelly; 10 great grandchildren; her brother, Bernard Hughes; sisters, Imelda Panzer and husband Hank and Maureen Devine; also many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Vincent and son Michael.

Peggy lived life to the fullest and was blessed with a family who loved her and enjoyed a wide circle of friends. In her life she was a foundling mother, a social worker in New York City, and was employed for 20 years at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where she held positions of increasing responsibility. She attended Cathedral High School in NYC, received a bachelor of science degree from Mercy College, and a master’s degree from New School for Social Research. In retirement, she and husband Vincent moved from the Bronx to Yulan, NY, where she had maintained a summer home since 1960. In her later years, she moved into an assisted living facility, Braemar, in Middletown NY before six years ago taking residence at St. Joe’s.

What defines Peggy, according to many, is her indomitable spirit and can-do attitude, also her willingness to help others in a time of need and support of various Catholic charities. She enjoyed travel (including to Ireland, Italy and cities throughout the U.S.), reading, and keeping tabs on the successes of her grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as being active with many via social media.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the GRAY-PARKER FUNERAL HOME, INC. 100 East Main Street Port Jervis on Friday, July 12, 2024 from 3:00pm – 6:00pm. A wake service will follow at 6:00pm.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024 with a Memorial Mass at 11:00am in St. Anthony’s Church, 25 Beaverbrook Road, Yulan, NY 12792.

Cremation was held at MacLennan Hall Crematorium, Milford, PA.
