Loring M. Black
January 2, 1950 – July 2, 2024

Loring M. Black (“Doc” “Ya Ya”) passed away at his home in Lagrangeville, NY on Tuesday, July 2, 2024. He was born January 2, 1950, in” Brooklyn, NY and moved to Verbank, NY when he was 7 years old. He lived in his home for 37 years.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sharon L. Black, his daughter Phyllis Black, son-in-law, Joshua Alvarado and his two grandsons, Lucian and Logan.

He was an avid reader and historian and graduated from The College of William and Mary with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1971. Everyone there knew him as “Doc” as he was a mentor and highly respected friend to many people there.

He retired from Dutchess County Department of Social Services in the Medicaid Department and formerly worked as a Dispatcher at Wappingers Falls Police Department for 30 years.  He spent many years in banking as an Assistant Vice President for Pawling Savings Bank and Collection Manager for Dutchess Bank.

Loring loved engaging people and was a dedicated friend to people he came to care about.  He cared deeply for his wife, daughter and grandsons and loved to pass down family history to anyone who would listen. Loring was an amazing man whom we all loved very much. He was the most dedicated husband, father and grandfather. We are all so fortunate to have known and been loved by him.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 13 from 3-6 pm at Allen Funeral Home, 3270 Franklin Av., Millbrook.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made in his honor to the American Human Society.
