BREWSTER- Cornell Cooperative Extension announces the 2024 Master Gardener Volunteer Training. This program is for those who are interested in learning more about gardening and the environment and want to share that knowledge with others. Are you passionate about native plants and pollinators? Could you stock a farm-stand with all the extra vegetables from your garden? Do you like to share your gardening experience and knowledge with neighbors? If you are nodding your head yes to one or all of these, sounds like you would make a great Master Gardener Volunteer!

Master Gardener Volunteers are a dedicated and diverse group of people who combine their passion for gardening with a sincere desire to share their knowledge with the community. Master Gardener Volunteers teach classes, answer questions at farmer’s markets and community events, organize and staff plant sales, and help homeowners solve pest problems on the horticulture hotline.

To become a Master Gardener Volunteer, you will participate in a mix of in-person group practicums on weekends, and self-paced weekly online learning modules. There are additional learning modules for those who want to further their knowledge, as well as advanced training opportunities.

Each Master Gardener Volunteer makes a commitment to 40 hours per year of volunteer activity for Cornell Cooperative Extension of Putnam County’s Environmental Horticulture and Natural Resources educational initiatives. If this sounds like something you’d enjoy, apply to become a Master Gardener Volunteer.

If you are a U.S. Military Veteran living in Putnam County, we have a generous scholarship opportunity in honor of Richard P. Dunne Jr.  Rich was a Chief Petty Officer with the United States Navy and the longest-serving Master Gardener in New York State.

Your first step? Visit our website to download an application and contact Maureen Salerno, Master Gardener Volunteer Coordinator, at 845-278-6738 ext. 221.  The deadline to apply is August 1, 2024.
