Sir Elton John reportedly shocked the staff of a shoe store in Nice, France, by relieving himself into a bottle while on a recent shopping trip.

He reportedly visited Sugarkikz in France on Monday with his two sons and bodyguards in tow.

According to Ryan Sukkar, the store owner, Sir Elton asked whether there was a public bathroom in the vicinity he might use.

When he was told that there wasn’t, the iconic musician is said to have asked his bodyguards for a bottle. According to reports, he then stepped away from the other customers and began to pee into the bottle.

Outside of an illustrious career in the music industry, the Candle in the Wind singer, 77, is known for his love of shopping and his occasionally eccentric behaviour – but this is particularly strange, even for him.

According to TMZ, who broke the story, the Crocodile Rock singer then asked his security for a towel to clean up the splash back he’d left on the floor.

Ryan revealed that he had no idea who the British pop star was, with Sir Elton responding ‘I’m Elton John,’ when asked about what he did for a living.

After quickly looking up his customer, Ryan realised that he was something of a big deal.

The shopkeeper described feeling ‘shocked and frustrated’ at Sir Elton’s behaviour, but also noted that he was ‘very cool,’ in spite of… you know.

It appears that there were no hard feelings – with the store posting a picture of Sir Elton and his sons to its Instagram story, captioned ‘Thank you Mr @eltonjohn.’

In the picture, Sir Elton’s sons, Zachary, 13, and Elijah, 11, could be seen carrying two Sugarkikz bags, containing the sneakers the star is said to have purchased following the incident.

Whether he apologised has not yet been revealed. Sorry, after all, is the hardest word.

Sir Elton’s visit to a shoe store in Nice isn’t news by itself, with the star living locally, in a nearby villa with husband David Furnish, 61.

This comes a year after the Rocketman singer played his last-ever set in Glastonbury in front of a crowd of over 120,000 people – and an audience of eight million people watching on TV.

Since then, the family have revealed how ‘jubilant’ they are to have left behind a life of touring and sad goodbyes.

‘We could not be happier and more excited about it, and a lot of people would say like, “Oh, you must be really emotional,” but at the end of the tour, he and I both sit at the table and go, “We can’t wait to be a family,”‘ husband David told Metro.co.uk last year.

However, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing since the star’s retirement – with Sir Elton suffering a tumble in August of last year.

Thankfully, he made a full recovery and, if his recent trip to the shoe shop suggests anything, is very much still standing.
