Chelsea have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Atlanta United and United States international Caleb Wiley.

The Blues have already made five signings this summer with Tosin Adarabioyo and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall arriving from Fulham and Leicester City respectively, while youngsters Marc Guiu, Estevao Willian and Omari Kellyman also joined the club.

However, their young recruitment drive shows no signs of slowing down, with The Athletic now reporting the club are closing in on the signing of 19-year-old Wiley.

The left-back is expected to join for a fee of £8.5million but is likely to head straight out on loan to French side Strasbourg next season.

Wiley was not named in Gregg Berhalter’s side for this summer’s Copa America but has been capped twice for the senior men’s side.

Chelsea are also closing in on deals for two more young defenders: Aaron Anselmino from Argentine side Boca Juniors and FC Basel’s Renato Veiga.

Anselmino is set to join in a deal worth $18 million (£14.1m) but the 19-year-old will remain on loan in Argentina for up to another year.

Veiga, meanwhile, is set to undergo his medical at Stamford Bridge in the coming days ahead of his €14million (£11.8m) move.

While Chelsea continue to aggressively recruit young talent for the future, new boss Enzo Maresca was full of praise for the squad’s current ability as he prepares for his first season in charge.

‘One of the reasons I’m here is because I’m convinced the squad is very good and full of talent,’ he said in his first interview as Chelsea manager.

‘The most important thing now is we’re able to create the right culture that drives us for the season.

‘I always say the same: if you are able to improve players then you are able to improve the team. So it’s our target to try to improve all of them day by day.’
