Harry Kane has eased any injury fears following his nasty landing late on in England’s Euro 2024 quarter-final win over Switzerland.
Late on in the second period of extra-time, Kane was sent flying towards the dugouts after a nudge from Manuel Akanji on the halfway line.
Manager Gareth Southgate did his best to stop him but the Bayern Munich star was left in a heap after crashing to the ground, seen clutching his ankle in the immediate aftermath.
Before he could return to the pitch, Kane was substituted with Brentford star Ivan Toney onto replace him – scoring in the shootout as England reached the semi-finals.
Speaking after the win, Kane said: I’m fine, I’m fine. I had a bit of cramp there. The boss made a quick decision with Ivan being a proven penalty-taker.’
After a goalless first-half, Switzerland took the lead after 74 minutes through Breel Embolo.
Bukayo Saka levelled the contest five minutes with a superb effort from range.
The Three Lions held their nerve in the shoot-out with Cole Palmer, Jude Bellingham, Saka, Toney, Trent Alexander-Arnold all expertly converting. Jordan Pickford meanwhile saved Switzerland’s first effort, denying Akanji.
‘Another tough game and first of all great resilience from the lads to turn it up again,’ Kane continued.
‘To get the goal, a fantastic finish from Bukayo Saka. Penalties are penalties, but I felt prepared – I was on the side, but I felt comfortable in the lads.
‘Five out of five and a save from Picks. We trust in whoever is on the pitch and the difference this year compared to past years is we have proven penalty takers – we have a lot more experience and we showed it out there.’
