Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) received two devastating blows as doctors delivered heartbreaking news in Friday’s Coronation Street.

Earlier this week, the character was rushed to hospital after brother-in-law Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) found her collapsed in agony at home.

Once under the care of medics, she received some bombshell news – that she was apparently pregnant, with Nick being the father, following the pair’s recent nights of passion behind Toyah’s step-sister Leanne’s (Jane Danson) back.

After the initial shock, they both relished the idea of parenthood, particularly Toyah, who’d been through seven unsuccessful rounds of IVF in the hopes of having a child.

On Friday, however, she had a scan that revealed she is not pregnant after all.

Toyah was told she received a false positive on her pregnancy test as a newly-discovered growth on her ovary was altering the result.

In a further blow, Toyah was then told the growth could be ovarian cancer, and a biopsy would be required.

As Toyah and Nick reeled from the news, Leanne went off to attend a session with cult leader Rowan Cunliffe (Emrhys Cooper), believing it would put her in a better position to help her sister.

When alone, Toyah and Nick admitted to one another that they were sad not to become parents together, despite what it would have done to Leanne.

As she headed off to have her scan, Leanne was missing in action, and after returning home, both Toyah and Nick gave her short shrift for not being there in Toyah’s hour of need.

Toyah now faces an agonising wait to find out what the biopsy has determined. Still processing not becoming a mother, is she also about to receive a devastating diagnosis?

Meanwhile, Nick was seen admitting to brother David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) that he is unsure if he still loves Leanne, as she is pulled further and further into the cult. Will he and Toyah grow even closer in her time of crisis?
