Revision as of 10:54, 24 June 2008
Interface-translations are done at Betawiki.
For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewardsconnect IRC channel (see a web-based IRC client). In emergencies only, type !steward
in the channel to inform stewards that you need help.
Please only make requests here after gaining the on-wiki approval of your local community.

Confirmation of identity
Certain permissions (notably CheckUser and Oversight) additionally require users to confirm their identity. Users requesting these permissions must make a request below, and must also submit the relevant identification to the Foundation. The request is placed on hold temporarily, until receipt has been formally confirmed by the office.
Instructions for how you can confirm your identity can be found at: Steward handbook/email templates.

Administrator access
Numulunjpiljgae@torama.ru
I request sysop access.

- Hello, I can't see a voting there, as it seems the community is too small for a regular voting I suggest You apply for temporary adminship, it is technically the same. Thanks, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| ∇ 18:35, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
Bureaucrat access
CheckUser access
To request CheckUser information, see Request for CheckUser information. This is the place to request CheckUser access. Note that temporary CheckUser access is not permitted.
Stewards: When someone asks for CheckUser status, please check the current policy regarding bestowal of status before giving the status. Do not grant CheckUser access unless the user is identified to the foundation, which will be announced here. Breaching these rules may be cause for removing your steward access. When you give someone CheckUser, please list them on CheckUser, ask them to subscribe to checkuser-l, email checkuser-l-owner@wikipedia.org so that the listadmins know the person is allowed on the mailing list (the list may contain confidential information), and make sure they contact an op for access to #wikimedia-checkuser.
Oversight access
Do not initiate an oversight request here. The Arbitration Committee will make the request once there is consensus on the local wiki (this process is currently for en-Wikipedia only).
Stewards: Do not grant Oversight access unless the user is identified to the foundation, which will be announced here. When you give someone oversight access, list them on Hiding revisions.
Removal of access
If you want to request that your own status be removed, please don't forget to place a note on your local user talk page (preferably with an English translation). This is required to prove your identity. And then add the request here. You should add the difflink of your local confirmation edit to the request.
To request the removal of another user's status, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. All discussion must be kept on your local wiki. When there is community consensus that the user's access should be removed, a trusted person from that wiki should provide a link here to the discussion, a very brief explanation of the reason for the request, and summarize the results of discussion.
Copy and paste the following text into the correct section. Fill in all the required fields -- language code, link to the local request, and link to your local user page. Without this information, a steward cannot process your request.
==== Username@language-code project-name ==== I request removal of access. *'''Language Code:''' xx *'''Local Confirmation/Request Link:''' <!--Difflink of the local confirmation edit (for own requests), or link to the community decision--> *'''Local User Page:''' [[xx:User:Example]] Thank you. ~~~~

Terra@en.Wikiversity
I request removal of access.

Thank you. --SB_Johnny|talk|books 13:47, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- To request the removal of another user's status, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. OR if you have different policies, could you point to that? --Dbl2010 14:16, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- I realize the links may look strange, but we don't use the typical RFA method on that project. I am Terra's "mentor", meaning I am responsible for his actions for the duration of his probationary custodianship. I am not at this point still willing to be responsible for him, so request removal until he either finds another mentor or passes an "RFC" (a.k.a. "RFA" on most other wikis). For confirmation of probationary status, see en:v:Wikiversity:Support staff
- I am a b'crat, and can reinstate the tools if need be. --SB_Johnny|talk|books 14:22, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, no very good policy link (we have very few policies on WV), but the original mentorship discussion should explain it: http://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/WV:RFC#Terra . If it were an RFA, it would have failed. --SB_Johnny|talk|books 14:41, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- As far as I understand there is 4 weeks of probational custodianship under a mentors supervising. After that, evaluation starts. And if mentor does not agree on his custodianship, he should find another mentor in 48 hours. If he cannot, then is user right will be revoked. That is what I understood from the Wikiversity policy pages. Am I right? If yes, we need to give him time and I guess he needs to know that you are not his mentor anymore. Sorry for so much bureaucracy but we should play along with the policies. Of course I may not see the whole picture, if so please direct me to the right policy pages so we can justify our move. Thanks. --Dbl2010 15:03, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- Well, it's actually been 3 months :). I had asked around for an alternate mentor after the 4 weeks, but no-one stepped up so I let him extend for another 2 months... bad idea in retrospect, but it's hard to know what to do when policies are lacking. --SB_Johnny|talk|books 15:55, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- OK. Lets do it this way: Announce on a suitable page that you are not supporting him anymore, so others get informed (If you haven't done yet). Also tell him about this on his talk page and also mention him to find another mentor in 48 hours if he wants to continue. And we see what happenes 48 hours later and we go from there. What do you think? --Dbl2010 16:04, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- Ah, good thinkin :). I've more or less said as much on both his talk page and on the first link provided, so no problem waiting a couple days. --SB_Johnny|talk|books 16:16, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

- I've had a little involvement with the Terra case and am (just a) sysop at Wikiversity with very little knowledge of policy. Thinking about the people perspective here, rather than policy, I don't see the harm in putting it to the vote on WV. --McCormack 15:05, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- Please don't get me wrong. I am not requesting a voting. I am just requesting some sort of justification. It can be vote, it can be a policy, it can be consensus, etc. Something that your local wiki policies accepts and agrees. Removing other users user right is a delicate thing. --Dbl2010 15:36, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

- Not sure if nine votes are sufficient for a deadmin. This is way belove our current limit for adminship. I think this needs considerations on the project as there are implicitt changes of the present policy in the discussion about this deadmin process. Jeblad 12:54, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
Temporary permissions for emergency or technical purposes
If you are requesting administrator status to make a translation of the wiki interface, see also the BetaWiki project, which seeks to make a neutral MediaWiki translation that will then be default for all wikis. That is more useful than only making a local translation. You can ask questions in the IRC channel or in the mailing list. See also MediaWiki localisation. If you are requesting adminship to handle one-time vandalism incidents or clearing a deletion backlog, please see Vandalism reports and Multilingual speedy deletions.
Stewards: Currently active temporary permissions are listed at /Approved temporary. When granting a request, please copy the request to the appropriate section there, and clearly state the date of removal. Requests only need remain listed below for a few days, and may afterward be removed as long as they have been copied to the subpage.
Copy and paste the following text into the correct section. Fill in all the required fields -- language code, link to the list of sysops and bureaucrats, local request link, link to your local user page, and the preferred duration with a reason. Without this information, a steward cannot process your request.

- so add them all--Nick1915 - all you want 09:19, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
- Yep, You can add also bots of other botowners, temporary bureaucrat status is only given in very very special cases (because making it temporary is rather senseless, since one could then change the rights of other users), rather not, also it is mostly done like: first sysop then crat, in this case please add the bots to be flagged to the request page on meta. But I can see there is no sysop in gan.wiki [2]. Please if You need sysop status, just say so, I would be happy to give You that flag, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| ∇ 10:40, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

- Yes, bute the local sysop is not active now, and articles are not deleted, becouse he isn´t active in this moment (perdon por mi ingles, prefiero el español)--Bengoa (My user talk) 11:48, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Theklan@eu wikibooks and Janfri@eu wikibooks
I request temporary sysop access.
- Language Code: eu
- List of local sysops: None (eu:wikibooks:Aparteko:ListUsers&group=sysop)
- List of local bureaucrats: None ((eu:wikibooks:Aparteko:ListUsers&group=bureaucrat)
- Local Request Link:
None[3]) - Local User Page: b:eu:Lankide:Theklan & b:eu:Lankide:Janfri
- Preferred duration and reason: There's no local sysop or bureaucrats and some articles must be deleted and main page blocked for preventing vandalism. Both Janfri and Theklan are sysops in eu:wikipedia so we only want to extend this permission as both are now working on expanding this project. We don't have a preferred duration, as there's not a stable community to make elections. When this elections happen we would happily let this other users in their work.
Thank you. Theklan 18:49, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- Hello, please can You make a local link nevertheless, I would like to see a local link always also for temp issues, in case someone would like to object. Also Janfri should know about he is going to be made temp-sysop, but I was not able to find any page where he said that or where someone told him. Please just open a local request where You two leave a short note and I would say lets start with a temp-period of 3 months then. Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| ∇ 00:12, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
- We spoke about it by mail, but now I have opened a discussion with him to make it public ([4]). -Theklan 10:50, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
Alison@gvwiki Manx Gaelic Wikipedia
I request temporary sysop and bureaucrat access.

- List of local bureaucrats: gv:Special:Listusers/bureaucrat - none
- Local Request Link: gv:User_talk:MacTire02#Bots_on_the_loose_:.29

- Preferred duration and reason: - one week only. I happened to stop by the wiki and noticed that the usual bots are flooding recentchanges with interwiki links to articles, etc. There are also a number of bogus/vandalism-only accounts which need rename. Also, I'd like to establish the Standard Bot Policy over there, so stewards can deal with this in future with minimum issues. MacTire02 - the only sysop - has given assent to my asking for a temp sysop/'crat bit to clean up the wiki[5], fix the bot issues and establish the usual cross-wiki policy, as he's not really sure what to do. I've done this before on gawiki/gawikti/gdwikti so it'll be no issue at all :) I can speak Irish Gaelic and can just about hack reading Manx Gaelic, so can work over there easy enough. Myself and MacTire02 both speak English and Irish so we're okay.
