Vanessa Samuelson recently spoke at the 2024 Youth Development Resource Center - Detroit Unify to Liberate Summit, a gathering elevating youth voices and highlighting the essential role out-of-school providers play in Detroit.
Highlighting the Work of Our Grant Partners
The McGregor Fund recently approved a Foundation Directed grant -- to strengthen the nonprofit sector, address discrete citywide and regional opportunities and challenges, and honor our founders’ legacy -- to the Michigan League for Public Policy.
This $150,000 grant will support MLPP's work to provide analysis, education, and advocacy on behalf of Michigan’s most vulnerable residents.
The McGregor Fund recent Skill Building & Employment grants, to promote economic mobility opportunities that focus on personal development, fulfillment, choice and connection, also included the following grant partners:

The McGregor Fund recently approved six Skill Building & Employment grants, totaling $1.3 million, to promote economic mobility opportunities that focus on personal development, fulfillment, choice and connection.
These included a grant of $140,000 for Grace in Action Collectives to support its general operations to advance youth development and career opportunities and to further expand its co-op incubation program in Southwest Detroit.
GIAC is committed to change driven primarily by neighborhood residents and to providing equitable wages and benefits to its staff. GIAC offers education, after-school programming and cooperative economic development-related opportunities, including startup funds, revenue reinvestment and living-wage job creation.

The McGregor Fund's recent Recovery & Restoration grants, for pathways to safety and healing from interpersonal and societal violence, abuse and inequity, included a $750,000 grant to Force Detroit.
This general operations grant will support FORCE's ongoing implementation of justice-oriented, relationship-based community violence intervention (CVI) strategies connecting individuals and groups at the center of violence with trusted messengers who have lived experience and access to crucial resources and alternative pathways.
FORCE’s city-wide peacemaking initiatives contributed to a marked decline in homicides in Detroit in 2023.

The McGregor Fund's recent Recovery & Restoration grants, for pathways to safety and healing from interpersonal and societal violence, abuse and inequity, included a $250,000 grant to Calebs Kids.
This grant will support the organization's general operations, as it invests in expanded staff and fund development capacity and responds with trauma-informed approaches to increased suicides and suicide attempt rates, particularly among youth of color.
Caleb’s Kids works to impact and preserve young lives in Metro Detroit through its culturally relevant, trauma-informed and evidence-based tools, resources and workshops to promote mental health and prevent suicide. It has been recognized locally and nationally for its transformative programming for families.

McGregor Fund Founders
More than 100 years ago, the McGregors devoted their lives to community service – Tracy as an agency founder and social entrepreneur ending homelessness and unemployment for Detroit men, and Katherine as the founder and benefactor of an orphanage in Highland Park. Their proximity to people experiencing hardship and trauma informed their charitable giving and Tracy’s role as a civic leader.
