Our voluntary Board of Trustees works together with our executive staff to ensure that the charity is effectively achieving its mission, using resources to maximum effect and upholding the core values that underpin our work. The Board of Trustees meets five times each year.

President and Chairman
James Long TD
James Long became President in 2022 and began his term as Chairman on 1 January 2024. James has previously chaired two FTSE companies and has wide Board level experience in international business and finance. He has also held senior positions within the United Grand Lodge of England, including membership of the Board of General Purposes, of which he was Deputy President from 2016 to 2022.

Edward Goodchild
Edward chairs the MCF’s Strategy Committee which oversees development and implementation of our vision and strategy, ensuring that our activities are responsive to and wholly supportive of UGLE’s own long term strategy.

Treasurer
Clive Emerson FCA
Clive was appointed a Trustee of the MCF in June 2019 and Treasurer in August 2023. He is a Chartered Accountant with extensive experience in both corporate and not-for-profit organisations.
Clive was previously the Chief Financial Officer of Help for Heroes and is now Chief Financial Officer of the Association of Corporate Treasurers, as well as a Trustee of a number of charities. He is also the Provincial Grand Charity Steward in the Province of Wiltshire.
