Van Bergen Kolpa Architects wishes you a good 2024!

As we move into 2024, we take the opportunity to share with you some of the projects we've been working on over the past year. With five completed projects worldwide, it was an important 'harvest' year for our office. But we would also like to look ahead with you to the projects that will be under construction in 2024.

Vertical Farm Beijing China
In Beijing we completed the Entrance Building for AgriGarden at the Agricultural Innovation Park. With 3,500 m2 spread over three floors, this is the innovation center for urban horticulture in Beijing and the rest of China. Together with Ammerlaan constructions, we designed a building with a slender steel structure that overlooks the city and the campus of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences along Beijing's 3rd ring road. We will share more beautiful images from photographer Weiqi Jin and information about this innovative food building with you soon.
Vertical Farm Hengshui China
Vertical_Farm_Hengshui
In the city of Hengshui south of Beijing, we delivered this innovation centre for Vertical Farming. The 12,000 m2 building brings together production and research facilities for urban food and ornamental cultivation. The youngest generation of future urban gardeners is already being enthusiastically trained by AgriGarden in the roof greenhouse on the fourth floor and the rest of the building will be put into use later this year. We will share more images and info with you soon.

Construction site de Maasbode Rotterdam
Our much anticipated Family Scraper de Maasbode has been under construction since last year. The 21,000 m2 high-rise building in the center of Rotterdam will be a world-unique tower with stacked residential streets of three-storey homes for families. Currently, the basement is finished, and the first-floor levels will soon rise above ground level. The building, commissioned by BPD, is due to be completed by construction company van Wijnen in 2026.

Family houses Nieuwe Wielewaal Rotterdam
Within the urban development plan of De Nijl Architects for this district in South Rotterdam, we have delivered the first series of typical Nieuwe Wielewaal homes with a curved roof and green facades. The new single-family homes commissioned by BPD are inspired by the temporary homes from 1949. Now that the first phases of homes for existing and new residents have been completed, we are working with the Van Wijnen construction company on the next phases of a total of 675 homes that are expected to be ready by the end of 2027.

Family houses Park16hoven Rotterdam
Park16Hoven
We delivered the northern edge of this new Rotterdam neighbourhood surrounded by a park landscape. The 48 single-family homes in layered brickwork with large windows look like a spotter's eye at the adjacent urban tree nursery and the passing airplanes in the sky. The homes for Cedrus Vastgoed were realized with Riz construction.

Creek Forest House DUIN Almere
For a family previously living in one of our houses in the dunes of DUIN Almere, we completed a new villa in the adjacent Creek Forest. Their new Creek Forest house sits like a rough wooden sculpture among tall existing trees on the north side and opens to the southwest and the surrounding nature with large windows. Along with the family, several birds immediately took up residence in the house with nature-inclusive facades.
Horti Science Center Wageningen UR Bleiswijk
In the middle of the Horti Science Park Lansingerland, we designed the new research greenhouse with reception facilities for researchers and entrepreneurs in vegetable and ornamental horticulture for Wageningen UR Glasshouse horticulture. The heart of the building is a transparent reception hall surrounded by presentation areas, workplaces, and laboratories. Together with the intended contractor, construction will start in the course of 2024.

Kruisdijk Park Portugaal
South of Rotterdam we have designed a residential community consisting of five residential buildings in a park-like landscape. Together with the landscape architects at Juurlink and Geluk, we are creating space for encounters, a fragrant orchard, rugged wadis and green play areas surrounded by varied buildings. The project for Kavel Vastgoed and van Mierlo will start construction in 2024.

De Hartenrust tower and townhouses Rotterdam
In the bend of the river Rotte, we designed a building consisting of a tower block, street houses and corner houses. Together they mark the Oude Noorden district's new connection to the riverbank. The facades are of robust yellow brickwork with a green glazed plinth matching the surrounding 19th-century neighbourhood. Construction of the 7-family houses and 29 senior flats for Havensteder foundation by construction company BAM will start in April 2024.
