Since last year our much-anticipated Family Scraper de Maasbode has been under construction. The 21,000 m2 high-rise in the center of Rotterdam will be a world-unique tower with stacked residential streets of three-storey homes for families. The building, commissioned by BPD is set to be completed by van Wijnen in 2025.

In Beijing our Entrance building for the Agricultural Innovation Park is topping out. With 3.500m2 in three floors it will be the educational center for vertical farming in Beijing and the rest of China. Together with Ammerlaan constructions we designed a building with a slender steel construction that overlooks the city and the campus of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Science along the 3rd ring road of Beijing. The building for Agri Garden will open doors by the beginning of 2023.

Within the urban plan by our colleagues of De Nijl Architecten for this district in Rotterdam South, we designed a series of typical New Wielewaal houses with a curved roofs and green facades. The new single-family homes commissioned by BPD are inspired by the temporary homes from 1949. The first phase of homes for existing residents was completed by Van Wijnen at the end of 2022, and the final phase of a total of 675 homes in 2027.

The public building for vertical farming houses 12.000m2 production, research and demonstration facilities and a rooftop greenhouse. With a full glass façade and characteristic ultraviolet led light, the building glows in the evening like the treasure box of the International Horticulture Park of China. The project, commissioned by Agri Garden will open doors for researchers, horticulturists and public in 2023.

When a family lived in one of our houses in the dunes of DUIN Almere, they asked us to design their new villa in the adjacent creek forest. Our design shows itself as a rough wooden sculpture between tall existing trees on the north side and opens up with large windows to the southwest and the surrounding nature. The residents will move in in the course of 2023.

Meanwhile our completed project Rooftop Greenhouse Agrotopia was awarded the prestigious World Architecture Festival Award 2022 and the Belgian Construction Award, shortlisted the Dezeen Awards and the ARC awards, published in numerous international magazines and exhibited at the World Design Cities Conference in Shanghai. Agrotopia was realized in collaboration with Meta Architectuurbureau for Inagro and REO auction.

Last year we finished the restoration of the monumental Wybertjes Factory and turned it into offices with Energy label A. And this year we will work on the addition of three buildings with in total 50 houses around the communal court garden. Together with Vogelensangh brick factory, we have developed a brick in the form of the wybertjes pastille for the new facades.

In the bend of the Rotte river we designed a building that consists of a tower part, street houses and corner houses. Together they mark the connection of the Oude Noorden district with the riverbank. The facades are of robust yellow masonry with a green glazed plinth that fits the 19th century neighbourhood. The 7-family house and 29 elderly apartments for Havensteder are projected to be under construction by the BAM in the course of 2023.
