TOURISM SASKATOON
Over the summer, we are playing a key role in collaborating with Tourism Saskatoon and the Saskatoon Food Council on multiple projects to enhance the region as a culinary destination in Canada, and to promote local food awareness.

Supported by Western Economic Development Canada, the first project is to work with food and drink businesses to provide new and exciting culinary experiences, through cultural education, tastings and samplings, within the Saskatoon area for visitors. The second project is to create momentum for travel trade operations within the area by launching a new social enterprise by 2021, aimed at offering and delivering culinary tours of Saskatoon and area.

THE ONLY TEA PLANTATION IN EUROPE
The Azores is an autonomous region of Portugal made up of 9 North Atlantic islands. The region's remote location, subtropical climate, and history as a sea trading port have all contributed to its unique culinary heritage and traditions. Pico Island's vineyard landscapes, characterized by volcanic stone walls, are designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site and on São Miguel Island (pictured), they've been growing tea since 1883. Today, it's the oldest (and only) tea plantation in Europe.

THE ROLE OF FOOD TOURISM IN SUPPORTING VIBRANT IDENTITIES AND BUILDING EDUCATION AMONG DIVERSE COMMUNITIES AND VISITORS
Written by Camilo Montoya-Guevara, Caroline Morrow and Trevor Jonas Benson as part of the 2020 Dublin Gastronomy Symposium, this paper explores the interrelation of foods produced in the rural areas around the GTA and the foods sought by diverse communities in urban centres of the GTA. Through analysis and comparison of land management and agricultural policy documents, community engagement initiatives, and current food tourism programs, this paper also considers the impact that the GTA’s cultural diversity has in shaping the future of food education and food tourism.

#SAFETRAVELS: GLOBAL PROTOCOLS & THE STAMP FOR THE NEW NORMAL

The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), alongside health experts and other industry associations, are working together to achieve effective recovery protocols by developing meaningful action plans that optimize sector-wide recovery efforts.

Part of their protocols includes providing the public & private sectors with the insights & toolkits for interaction & implementation to ensure that people are and feel safe. It is paramount to have common rules. They envision a future of travel which is safe, secure, seamless and provides an authentic and meaningful experience to the traveller across the journey; one which supports the livelihoods of millions and contributes to sustainable economic growth.

They will be publishing the protocols in phases and for at least eleven industries, including; Hospitality, Attractions, Outdoor Retail, Aviation, Airports, Short Term Rentals, Cruise, Tour Operators, Convention Centres and MICE, Car Rental and Insurance.

The protocols align the private sector behind common standards to ensure the safety of its workforce and travellers as the sector shifts to a new normal.
