Giving Thanks

As we celebrate the holiday season and reflect back on 2019, on behalf of the staff and the board of directors of the Friends of Kananaskis Country, we extend our deepest thanks and gratitude to all the `Friends of the Friends` - volunteers, members, donors, partners and supporters who help make our vision possible.

Thank you all for your tremendous support and for inspiring us to continue working towards a Kananaskis Country enjoyed by present and future generations.

See you on the trails!

2019 Highlights

What a great year! We continued to advance our mission of
building a community of volunteers and partners to maintain the ecological integrity and recreational use of Kananaskis Country by engaging in trail care, stewardship, education, and research. Here are a few highlights:
  • Co-hosted nine speaker and discovery events at the University of Calgary and the Peter Lougheed Discovery Centre in partnership with Alberta Parks
  • Kananaskis Trail Builders Coalition regional crew leader training
  • Hosted 2 free 'Trail Building 101' workshops
  • Launched our Kananaskis Public Land Use Zone trail assessment and maintenance project
  • Third annual TRAIL LOVE - GIVE BACK raised $14,702
  • Another incredible TRAIL CARE season

2019 TRAIL LOVE - GIVE BACK FUNDRAISER RAISES $14,702

On November 15, we launched the 3rd annual “Trail Love – Give Back” fundraiser, with the goal to raise $10,000 by December 11. Your support pushed us over the finish line. In total, we raised $14,702 - now that's trail love!

Your love for Kananaskis trails and support for our programs will be appreciated by generations of trail users.

On behalf of the Friends of Kananaskis Country and all trail lovers - THANK YOU.

2019 Volunteer & Member Survey

Thanks to all who took the time to fill out our 2019 Volunteer & Member Survey. We had
83 responses and will be diving deeper into all your feedback and suggestions over the next few weeks. We look forward to providing a summary of what we heard in our January 2020 newsletter. Congratulations to the winners of our Columbia prize packs draw: Lynne Ralston, Dave Fennell and Ulrike Martin.

A Time for Giving

There are many ways to express your gratitude for Kananaskis Country and we are always grateful for contributions that help us maintain our programs and operations.

We are continuously exploring ways to broaden our trail stewardship role and offer more opportunity for community engagement to add value to Kananaskis Country. We forecast the following 2020 projects:
  • Public Land Trail Maintenance Project: To provide volunteer support for on-going trail maintenance in the Kananaskis Country and Sibbald Public Land Use Zones.
  • Chester-Sawmill Winter Trails: To engage volunteers in helping brush and clear an additional 5km of snowshoe, ski and fat biking trails in the Chester-Sawmill system.
  • Razor’s Edge Connector Trails: To complete the 2km connector trail that will result in the designation of the Razor’s Edge Trail (McConnell Ridge) – a popular biking and hiking destination trail.
  • Alberta Parks Trail Support: To continue assisting Alberta Parks with building and maintaining its designated trails.
We encourage you to help us achieve our full ‘trail stewardship’ potential by donating. Together we can do more for Kananaskis trails and trail users.

Friends of Kananaskis Country is a registered charity in good standing and we provide charitable receipts for donations over $25.00. You can reach us directly by mail at the address below, or through the
