Lwala unlocks the potential of communities to advance their own comprehensive well-being
Lwala is a Kenyan-founded, Kenyan-led organization rooted in the communities we serve. When it comes to improving health outcomes, we believe that communities should be in the driver's seat–no one can identify challenges and solutions better than communities themselves. Our model centers communities as leaders and change-makers breaking cycles of inequity.
Community-led solutions to transform health systems
Creating significant, system-wide change requires movement building. Lwala convenes coalitions of government officials, implementing partners, and civil society to make the Kenyan health system work better for the communities it serves. Together, we test new solutions, gather community input, and change health policies.
Watch this video that we created in partnership with BBC StoryWorks, WHO Foundation, and Medic about our work to make professional community health workers the norm across Kenya–and the new digital tools that are making their jobs easier.
