Work on data, publications, law, and more. To give you an idea of what you gain from a #BlueBookTraineeship with us, we talked with one of our current trainees, Ivana, who worked on a fascinating project: assessing the carbon footprint of our web activities. 🌱 Ivana studied International Media and Communication at Erasmus University in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Her passion for effective communication and political discourse led her to the EU Publications Office. Ivana shares: ‘This project really got me thinking about how we can approach sustainability more effectively and minimise our environmental impact. Additionally, I broadened my skillset in user behaviour analysis, web analytics, and advanced analytics.’ Working with us, Ivana dived into advanced analytics to make sense of complex datasets, forecast trends, and optimise our web presence. 📊🔍 ‘The digital carbon footprint assessment was a complex undertaking,’ Ivana explains. ‘Identifying patterns and trends within these datasets is fascinating, and seeing how these insights influence real-world decisions is incredibly rewarding.’ What will Ivana take home from her time with us? ‘This traineeship provided me with valuable insights into the European Commission's inner workings,’ she says. ‘It exposed me to a dynamic and highly skilled multidisciplinary team environment. Working effectively with others is a continuous learning process, and this traineeship has been a great stepping stone.’ Want to gain hands-on experience like Ivana? #OnThisDay, 60 years ago today, the landmark Costa/ENEL ruling established the supremacy of EU law over national laws. The case arose when Flaminio Costa, an Italian lawyer, challenged the nationalisation of the electricity sector by the Italian government, arguing that it violated the EEC Treaty. The ensuing legal battle reached the Court of Justice of the European Union, which ruled that the Treaty of Rome, and thus EU law, took precedence over national laws. This decision taken by the Court of Justice ensured that European Union law would take precedence over conflicting national legislation, reinforcing the legal unity and coherence across member states. The ruling has had far-reaching implications and contributed to the stability and predictability of #EULaw. 'The impact of AI on our daily work' is the focus of the first interinstitutional Luxembourg #EUSummerSchool we're very pleased to participate in this week. Our colleague Marc Küster explained how #TrustworthyAI enables us to concentrate on more important tasks and helps us to build new services for citizens. He gave examples to the audience of how we're developing AI to deliver enhanced and more efficient public services, from using eTranslate on our CORDIS website to applying it to public procurement information (beta), cataloguing and data extraction. In the panel ‘Ethical issues arising from the use of Artificial Intelligence on our daily work’ Marc Küster said that #AI is more than just LLMs. He also gave a crucial tip for taking up AI: ‘Be curious and experiment, but with a critical mind’. If you're at the event this Thursday join our colleague Pieterjan Montens in parallel session 10: 'How can we leverage AI to make EU law more easily discoverable, understandable and accessible', 11.45-12.30. #ResponsibleAI #ExplainableAI #GenerativeAI .................................... Do you know how disinformation works? It often plays on emotions and wants to trigger a strong reaction. Disinformation does not give you time to think and aims to manipulate you. So before you share, stop for a moment to check if the information is correct
