In February 2024, the European Council adopted a new regulation, gradually making instant euro payments mandatory throughout the European Union and the countries of the European Economic Area. Instant payments are designed to meet current customers’ needs, being sent or received within seconds, 24/7 and 365 days a year. The objective of the regulation is to harmonize the regulatory framework around these payments, and to enable consumers to access them not only within the same country, but also across another EU/EEA member.
