At Ferrero, we care about the ingredients that go into the products of each brand you have come to know and love. We do not simply buy ingredients – we carefully select, manage and aim to create value across our supply chains. Tracing our raw materials such as cocoa or hazelnut back to their origin helps us to understand how they are produced. Floriane Hédé, our Traceability Manager of Responsible Sourcing, explains why traceability is so important to us at Ferrero and how we continue to improve each year. We are proud to announce the launch of our annual Cocoa Charter Progress Report. In our latest report, some of our achievements include: 🍫 93% traceable cocoa with polygon mapping, a way to know the boundary of the cocoa farm 🌳 50,000 farmers received targeted support to improve farming practices 📖 25 schools built or renovated (133 in total by 2023) We aim to be a driving force in a cocoa sector where production creates value for all: where the livelihoods of farming communities are improved; children's right are respected; and the environment is protected through sustainable agricultural practices. Cocoa is one of our main ingredients in the products you know and love. Making traceability a priority means that we can better understand where our cocoa comes from and under which conditions it's produced, so we can effectively manage and nurture our supply chain. Not only have we reached 93% traceability to farm level, but we've also created programmes that help support our farmers by improving their cocoa farming practices, diversifying their income as well as strengthening their communities. Over 40 countries produce palm oil, with Malaysia and Indonesia accounting for around 85% of global production. Malaysia is therefore one of our key regions for promoting sustainable practices. We work closely with the not-for-profit organisation, Earthworm Foundation, where we focus on creating better supply chain conditions for people and nature as well as adopting responsible and ethical labour practices. We are also a part of a project, which encourages palm oil producers to adopt biodiversity conservation practices, establish habitats for beneficial insects, and reduce the usage of synthetic pesticides. We are proud to announce that the second Ferrero Hazelnut Company (HCO) facility was recently inaugurated in San Gregorio de Ñiquén, Chile. Our new AgriChile (a HCO affiliate) plant is dedicated to hazelnut processing, from agricultural to industrial. Along with boosting hazelnut production in Chile, it will also enhance capacities development, technology sharing with local producers, and support the growth of the sector in the country. We'd like to thank everyone involved with making this happen as well as those who attended the inauguration ceremony, as we mark this global milestone with Chile becoming a key player in the hazelnut value chain.
