We provide finance and expertise for sustainable investment projects that contribute to EU policy objectives and make a strong impact on people’s lives in Europe and beyond. The EU's bank The EIB is the European Union's bank. We are the only bank owned by and representing the interests of the European Union Member States. We work closely with other EU institutions to implement EU policy. A major player As the largest multilateral borrower and lender by volume, we provide finance and expertise for sound and sustainable investment projects which contribute to furthering EU policy objectives. More than 90% of our activity is focused on Europe but we also implement the financial aspects of the EU's external and development policies. Lending, blending and advising Lending: The vast majority of our financing is through loans, but we also offer guarantees, microfinance, equity investment, etc. Blending: Our support helps us unlock financing from other sources, particularly from the EU budget. This is blended together to form the full financing package. Advising: Lack of finance is often only one barrier to investment. We can help with administrative and project management capacity which facilitates investment implementation.

The fight against climate change requires collective action — from governments, institutions, businesses and individuals. A good understanding of the climate challenge is essential for people to make informed choices. The sixth edition of our climate survey focused on people’s knowledge of climate change in three key areas: definitions and causes, consequences, and solutions. Over 30 000 respondents across 35 countries answered 12 questions and were ranked on a scale of 0 to 10, with 10 indicating the highest level of knowledge. Continuing our support for SMEs, women-led businesses, and the blue economy, our Vice President Thomas Östros visited Tanzania this week to discuss with key public and private sector stakeholders. The Vice President met with: 🔵President of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar H.E. Hussein Ali Mwinyi to - Discuss water and blue economy initiatives, renewable energy, and SMEs support and progress of loans signed last year to 3 Tanzanian Banks benefiting over 10,000 SMEs, including more than 900 in Zanzibar's blue economy. - Reaffirm EIB and European Commission support as part of #TeamEurope. 🔵President of Tanzania Samia Suluhu to discuss EIB investments in the country. 🔵NMB Bank Plc to discuss investments taking stock of our good cooperation in initiative like our €100 million credit line agreement last year, focusing on gender and blue economy, which is now leading to tangible, impactful support on the ground.
