We're spending this stormy day reflecting on our favorite event from the spring semester: The Joint BME Retreat ☔ 💜 . We brought together our alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends for a day of all things biomedical engineering. Most importantly, we came together to celebrate our 20th year as a department! Students presented posters and guest speakers covered a wide range of topics in the field. The best part was that we got to learn about the history of how our department came to be at both North Carolina State University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Thank you to all who attended, especially our wonderful guest speakers: https://lnkd.in/e2Mu-H_y

🌟 Faculty Feature 🌟 Meet Amy Adkins, Teaching Assistant Professor in Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering | UNC & NC State! Graduating from Northwestern University with her Ph.D., her research specializes in rehabilitation engineering that focuses on how muscle structure and function changes following a stroke or orthopedic surgery. Her goal is to develop improved interventions or therapies for individuals with motor impairments. But, this summer, Amy is focusing on other personal and professional goals. She's mastering different generative AI tools to teach her students, developing new lectures and in-class activities for her mechanics course, and applying for education based grants. Additionally, she's teaching a summer class and excited about incorporating new topics into the curriculum. In June, Amy will attend the American Society for Engineering Education conference to present research on student perceptions of generative AI's usefulness and ethics, hoping to connect with colleagues, and learn new strategies for effective teaching. To recharge, Amy enjoys outdoor activities. She's planning a road trip including camping and hiking with a stop at Mammoth Caves. Quality time with family in Colorado, hiking, fishing, and tubing are at the top of her list. We’re looking forward to hearing more about Amy’s AI tool integration and hearing about her summer! #OFDSFacultyFeature
