About us

Born in 1927, Hubert James Taffin de Givenchy founded his namesake House in 1952. That same year, he presented a collection that would leave an indelible mark on fashion history: his “separates” – elegant blouses and light skirts blending architectural lines and simplicity – met with enormous success in light of the more constricted looks of the day. The “enfant terrible of Haute Couture” was born. Spare lines, slender hips, slim silhouettes and swan-like necks won over actresses from around the world. In 1955, Hubert de Givenchy presented his first shirtdress; the evolution toward lantern shapes would become iconic. Audrey Hepburn, as the designer’s muse, accompanied him in inventing a style that would redefine standards of elegance. In 1969, the launch of the “Givenchy Gentleman” line became a reference in men’s fashion. After a career spanning more than 40 years, and having become a part of the LVMH group in 1988, Hubert de Givenchy retired in 1995. He would be succeeded by some of fashion’s great creative talents, among them John Galliano, Alexander McQueen, Julien MacDonald, Riccardo Tisci, and, most recently, Clare Waight Keller, who designed the gown Ms. Meghan Markle wore to wed Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, in May 2018. Just two months earlier, Monsieur Hubert de Givenchy passed away peacefully in Paris, aged 91. In June 2020, Givenchy opened a new chapter in its history with the appointment of Matthew M. Williams as Creative Director of women’s and men’s collections. A self-taught designer, Mr. Williams brings to the House a commitment to craftsmanship and attention to detail as well as an intuitive understanding of tailoring, technology and integrity in fashion. His flair for translating cultural undercurrents into high fashion, coupled with his vision of the House’s timeless attitude and inclusive allure make him the ideal steward for moving the Givenchy legacy forward in a modern and powerful way.

In honor of Vogue World, Givenchy presented five creations inspired by the silhouettes Hubert de Givenchy designed for the historic charity fundraiser and fashion spectacular known as "The Battle of Versailles". Embodying one of the looks, Ciara wore a hooded cape in green silk chiffon with gold lamé detailing over a long-sleeved bodysuit fully embroidered with gold sequins. Relive and discover the rest of the looks during a backstage moment of the final fittings with Carine Roitfeld and Alexandre Samson. On June 29th, 2024, Givenchy inaugurated its summer pop-up at the Porto Cervo Waterfront on Sardinia’s Costa Smeralda, in partnership with the Nikki Beach Pop-Up Bar & Lounge. Caressed by a sea breeze, this idyllic summertime showcase is dedicated to Givenchy Plage, a collection inspired by the laid-back refinement and joie de vivre at Le Clos Fiorentina, Hubert de Givenchy's summer home in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat.

For the Spring 2025 pre-collection, Givenchy blends aristocratic elegance with audacity, provocation, and a hint of punk. Picking on signatures such as the newly relaunched Monogram 72, archival prints, pom-poms, bows, and argyle motifs, clothes for women and men explore modern dressing through a “relaxed-formal" lens. Soft structuring and delicacy juxtapose with edgier subtexts, a nod to Hubert de Givenchy's taste for injecting striking silhouettes with covert undertones. Discover more on https://lnkd.in/eDZh-tfu

Embrace the Givenchy spirit and delve deeper into our craftsmanship. Today, step into the role of Pattern Maker with Esther. One of her most memorable moments at Givenchy? Crafting the final dress for a Haute Couture show. This intricate design featured a voluminous gown with feathers embroidered on a delicate organza. The complexity and scale of the dress posed unique challenges, especially during the show. The model had just one minute to change from a previous outfit, requiring impeccable coordination and precision. Are you passionate about fashion and luxury?
