Abstract

Genitourinary pathology is a branch of surgical pathology that makes diagnoses of lesions of the prostate, bladder, testis, penis, kidney, and other portions of the genitourinary tract. Many genitourinary pathologist include the adrenal glands in their subspecialty area. Lesions involving the prostate, bladder, and kidney are the most common ones seen by genitourinary pathologists. Genitourinary pathologists work closely with urologists and radiologists to make specific diagnoses in urologic pathology. Some of the most common and challenging lesions seen daily by the urologic pathologist will be summarized below. These include: prostate adenocarcinomas, bladder and urothelial carcinomas and renal cell carcinomas.
