Abstract

Purulia municipality area, West Bengal, India has undergone rapid, wide-ranging changes in the Land-use-Landcover (LULC) and resultant changes in the quality of urban life (QoUL) among the city-dwellers has been seen over the last two decades. Changes in some selected LULC i.e., household, wetland and market area has been identified using satellite images of 1985, 2006, 2010, 2016 and 2021. Arc-GIS 10.8.1 versions have been used to gain a quantitative and geo-statistical analysis of the spatial-temporal changes in LULC and QoUL among the 22 wards of the municipality town. In this study selected criteria i.e., social and physical health and psychological changes of the city dwellers has been analysed with the help of average weightage of satisfaction level derived from Likert scale in the change of QoUL. It has been found that a remarkable and huge change has been occurred in last 36 years in the study area and the inhabitants are being accustom with the change in their lifestyle day by day rapidly with the changing scenario.
