Abstract
The University System of Georgia—comprising 26 public colleges and universities—offers a unique consortium model in which directors and upper administrators from centers for teaching and learning can collaborate, share ideas, and engage in professional development. The Georgia Consortium on Teaching and Learning assists smaller centers by sharing resources they would otherwise have to forego. In addition, subgroups of directors have collaborated successfully on their own cross-institutional projects. This chapter explores the benefits of working and thinking together in a community of practice, outlines the function and form of consortium meetings, and highlights what has been accomplished specifically through this collaborative model. Finally, the chapter offers steps to creating a cross-institutional consortium, along with advice from the personal experiences of the authors.
