Abstract
The compilation of the cosmic star formation history suggests that no particular epoch of star formation is seen at redshifts z > 1 (Madau et al. 1996). The rise of the volume-averaged star formation rate from z = 0 to 1 has been attributed to a disk epoch when gaseous galactic disks were converting into stars. In order to search for these predictions deep high resolution images of large areas of the sky are required. Only recently, surveys with such requirements have become available. One of these surveys has been taken with the HST’s Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) by the GOODS team (Great Observatories Origins Deep Survey). Treasury fields (Chandra Deep Field South and Hubble Deep Field North) have been visited by ACS during 5 epochs (see M. Giavalisco contribution in this proceedings for more details) from October 2002 until March 2003. In this contribution we present the results of the survey using the HST/WFPC2 (F300W) in combination with the HST/ACS multi-wavelength images. The main goal is to establish the nature of the star-forming galaxies at intermediate redshifts.
