Life Pieces’ Afterschool Program is entirely free for youth and families, and importantly, includes meals and safe door-to-door transportation to and from the program.

Our daily afterschool program includes homework help, computer training and art, the academic enrichment, artwork, field trips, activities, guest speakers and times for reflection all center around one of the values/colors of the Life Pieces decision-making tool, the LPTM Shield of Faith.

Each day includes an academic hour with a focus on homework, math or reading. Mentors may be working with apprentices in small groups or on one-on-one tutoring. In addition, each class spends time working on individual presentations of creative writing or participating in interactive discussions.

Our program team members bring their unique talents and abilities to the development of our program and use the Life Pieces curriculum for teachable moments such as:

  • What do leaders do?

  • How do your thoughts, words, and actions impact your every day life?

Some days we focus on art creation or on activating athletes with yoga, chess, and other games that reinforce our values. Each day includes a healthy meal.

NOTE FOR PARENTS: Our after-school program runs in accordance with the DCPS calendar. There is no Life Pieces programming on days where DCPS students have no school. View the DCPS Calendar here.
