Freedom around the world has severely declined, according to a report by Freedom House (a Washington DC-based NGO, founded in 1941, focused on political advocacy surrounding issues of democracy, political freedom, and human rights around the world).

Political rights and civil liberties have deteriorated in 52 countries. Armed conflict and election manipulation were the main causes.

Global freedom will be tested again this year, with billions of people heading to the polls. At least 40 countries are holding elections in the coming months.
