How do I renew my books, DVDs, CDs and other items?

My items are coming due. My items are overdue. I can't return until later.

Answer

Instructions to renew items can be found online here - keep in mind that not all items can be renewed.:
https://www.nypl.org/help/borrowing-materials#2

1. Sign in to your account with your NYPL library card number and PIN/Password.
2. If you have items checked out, you should see a list of them, or click My Checked Out Items.
3. Select the materials you want to renew by checking the boxes in the RENEW column and then click the Renew Selected button. If you want to renew everything, click the Renew All button.
4. If you cannot renew items, a message will appear on the screen. If you are successful, a new due date will appear in the STATUS column. Always check the STATUS column for information on the success or failure of your renewal.

Library materials may also be renewed in person at any branch, or by telephone. You can call the catalog line 24 hours a day at (332) 241-5525 to renew library materials, find out what items you have on loan, cancel holds, and find out your total fines. When you call please be sure to have your library card number, and have handy the barcode(s) of the item(s) you'd like to renew.

According to the New York Public Library Borrowing Materials page ( https://www.nypl.org/help/borrowing-materials ), most materials except Book and Video Express copies may be renewed ten (10) times for the same period as the original loan, unless another reader has placed a 'hold' on the item. Online and telephone renewals are not available if you have 5 or more overdue items, have $100 or more in fines, or have an item that is two weeks or more overdue. Keep in mind that when an item is renewed the new due date is based on the date of renewal - not the original due date.

For more information, you can please contact staff at your local NYPL branch. A list of NYPL branch locations is available online here: https://www.nypl.org/locations
