This eerie and energised three-hander deserves the word-of-mouth hype it has accrued in less than a month. An abusive husband and father is killed by his wife and daughters and what happens next is described in gruesome but remarkably vivid detail. Angus Cerini’s script has a UK premiere in a production which has a life of its own – via Sophie Drake and Iskandar إسكندر R. Sharazuddin’s respective direction and movement direction.

The Bleeding Tree had its final performance at the Southwark Playhouse Borough on 22 June.

Some background: Sometimes I’ll see a show at my own leisure – often a fair way into the run where a full review isn’t necessary because tickets are sold out, there’s only a handful of performances left, or the show is well-established – and I’ll still have a few things to say about it.

This is the result: #ReviewIn72, where I write my thoughts on the production in exactly 72 words – no more.
