Water rescue crews pull 54 people out of Rio Grande

UPDATE: El Paso Fire Department finished rescue operations at the water near Doniphan at around 8:05 p.m.. 54 people were rescued from the water. No injuries were reported.

30 divers from EPFD, Sunland Park Fire Department, Montana Vista Fire Department, Horizon Fire Department, and U.S. Border patrol worked to rescue those in the water.

The rescue scene and individuals pulled out of the water have been turned over to law enforcement.

UPDATE: EPFD and SPFD Water Rescue crews have pulled 54 people out of the water near Doniphan as of 7:18 p.m.. No one has been reported injured.

SUNLAND PARK, New Mexico (KVIA) -- Sunland Park Fire Department water rescue crews worked this afternoon to pull multiple people out of the Rio Grande River. They were near Racetrack Drive and McNutt Road at Paisano. They left the scene by 5:00 PM.

The El Paso Fire Department's water rescue team is also trying to pull multiple people out of the water on the 3500 block of Doniphan Drive. This situation is still happening. ABC-7 is working to learn whether the two incidents are connected. We are sending a crew to the scene.
