One of the individuals fired a shot and all three fled the scene. Emergency services including local police and paramedics arrived around 15 minutes later (3:15 AM). Wacko was rushed to the hospital but pronounced dead on arrival.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has since confirmed that Wacko was gunned down in the vicinity of West Pico Boulevard and South Hope Street after leaving work. LAPD also noted that the suspects fled by car.

Speaking to NBC 4, Wactor’s mother Scarlett, claimed that when her 37-year-old son first saw the men tampering with his car, he thought he was being towed. His mistake became apparent when one of the culprits looked up revealing his mask. It was the same individual who fired the fatal shot.

“I just don't understand [...]. What a senseless coward[ly] act by that person,” Scarlett lamented.

CBS News has since reported that the owners of the Level 8 Nightclub where Wacko was employed weighed in with their condolences, saying:

“We are profoundly saddened and mourn the unexpected loss of a valued and cherished team member. Our hearts go out to his family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.”

This statement was one of a slew from colleagues, friends, and relatives including his ex-fiancé who said:

“He, I guess, was seeing them doing it in the act and was standing up for what he believed was right and, you know, protecting his vehicle and his car and was being brave. You never anticipate someone would kill someone for that.”

The official General Hospital Facebook page released a statement of their own:

“The entire General Hospital family is heartbroken to hear of Johnny Wactor’s untimely passing. He was truly one of a kind and a pleasure to work with each and every day. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones during this difficult time.”

Wactor's talent agent, David Shaul told PEOPLE that the late actor was “not just a talented actor who was committed to his craft but a real moral example to everyone who knew him. Standing for hard work, tenacity, and a never-give-up attitude. In the highs and lows of a challenging profession, he always kept his chin up and kept striving for the best he could be.”
