In 2023, we achieved a remarkable 41% reduction in single-use plastics per room night compared to our 2019 baseline. Join us on International Plastic Bag Free Day (3 July) as we take a stand against plastic pollution! We're taking concrete steps across our hotels to eliminate disposable plastics. For instance, we're transitioning installing filtered water taps in guest rooms, or providing filtered water in reusable or recyclable bottles. Did you know that only 0.5% of Earth's water is readily available freshwater? That's why we're aiming for an 8% reduction in water intensity by 2030 compared to 2019, and we're already making great progress! 💧 We’ve implemented effective initiatives including water-saving shower heads, sensor-flushing cisterns and wastewater recovery systems from air conditioners, laundry, and other greywater sources. Six of our resorts, including those in Boracay, Cebu, and the Maldives, even transform ground or seawater into freshwater. But it doesn't stop there! We also engage our guests in meaningful conservation experiences. Take Shangri-La Chengdu for example, with its 12-year partnership with the Dujiangyan Panda Saving and Disease Control Centre, not only do our colleagues volunteer there regularly, but the hotel has also donated a 1.6-hectare bamboo plantation and sponsors a panda kitchen.
