Congratulations to Eric Mwangi and Mungai Kiroga for winning the conservation pitch at Sunny Side of the Doc! 🎉 The new film, EMPALIKINO, pitched in La Rochelle, France, is a triumph! 🌍 EMPALIKINO: Deep in the heart of Samburu, a Maasai tribesman navigates the delicate balance between protecting the community’s cattle 🐄, a precious source of livelihood, and coexisting with the majestic yet perilous lions 🦁. It's a journey of finding forgiveness and acceptance in an enduring struggle for harmony and resources. 🌿🤝 #Conservation #Film #SunnysideOfTheDoc #LaRochelle #Empalikino

✅ Men, it’s time to embrace vulnerability. The impact screening of “Lusala,” 🎥 a film by Mugambi Nthiga, on Thursday at Terrace Art Space, was a fantastic way to honor Men’s Mental Health Month. Abused as a child and adopted by an affluent family in Nairobi, a young man is forced to start anew on his own and confronts demons from his troubled past. This resonates well with the kind of silence life lived by many young men battling inner struggles. The screening was followed by a Q&A session 👥 with the film's director Mugambi Nthiga, main actor Brian Ogola, and Eric Onyango British Council moderated by Nam Terrace. They shared insights about filmmaking, creative funding opportunities, and collaborations with a well-curated audience of film enthusiasts in Kilifi Town. 🎬

It takes one young person to be the agent of change in a community. 23 years ago, a 13-year-old William Kamkwamba built a wind turbine to save his Malawian village from famine. 🌍💡 This evening, as we screened "The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind" at Majaoni Secondary School, we hoped to inspire young people to take action through innovation and contribute towards providing solutions to the climate change crisis facing humanity, especially in their communities in Kilifi County. 🌱🌾 The power of climate storytelling draws parallel experiences from Malawi to Kenya, showcasing possible solutions we can harness to save Africa and the world at large. 🌍✨ #ClimateAction #YouthInnovation #SustainableFuture #Inspiration #Kilifi #Kenya #TheBoyWhoHarnessedTheWind 📽️💪🏾🌿

Deforestation, water conservation, afforestation, climate change, animal conservation, pollution 🌍🌿 🌊🐾: These are just a few of the pressing issues students explored after watching two climate-focused short documentaries, The Forest Guardian by Antony Ochieng and River of Brown Water by Laissa Malih. 🌳🎥 We screened these impactful films to 300 pupils at The Kilifi Junior School, and the discussions that followed were incredibly insightful. The students shared their own experiences with climate issues in the coastal region, finding many parallels with the stories depicted in the films. 🎬🌿 These films were curated under the #tabianchisos! an initiative by Docubox and Youth for SDGs Kenya, supported by Hivos East African. This experience clearly shows that students learn best through stories told by our people, through the power of film. 🌍📚

Over 5000 students from 40 schools across the country! 13 epic activities including an impact screen and climate change conversations! Plus, an electrifying performance by Lil Maina and other artists! Bush Festival 2024, held last Saturday at Alliance High School, is arguably the best school event in East and Central Africa! By sharing stories of resilience, adaptation, and community-led initiatives, we inspired hope and motivated students to take climate action. In partnership with Climate Story Lab Africa, Tunga Media Afrika, Youth for SDGs Kenya, Tabianchi, Crtve Development, GSCC, Alliance High School and Kenya Environmental Activists Network (KEAN), we showcased the power of storytelling and its impact on young people in Kenya and beyond. The conversation starts in our stories and spaces like #BushFestival, where we let our hearts and minds explore new possibilities. We must investigate what it means to be human in the age of climate change and work together for a common purpose. Let's all do our part to provide solutions to climate change. On to the next Bush Festival! hashtag #ClimateAction hashtag #YouthPower hashtag #BushFestival2024
