Kenya is world famous for its groundbreaking MPESA. But did you know that we are also carving a niche in disruptive construction innovations? Kenya's Mvule Gardens in Kilifi County is the only 3D-printed residential development in Africa and hosts the most units located in one geographical area in the world, which is 10% out of the 110 3D-printed houses globally. Our first 10 houses are a testament to the extent technology and innovation can play in today's construction, specifically, affordable housing and sustainable construction agenda in Kenya. These houses are on sale. They start from Kshs 2.9m and there's financing available from Stanbic Bank Kenya. Get yourself one. Talk to us. #BamburiCement

Our CEO Mohit Kapoor joined other business leaders on KTN's Transform Kenya for a conversation on the Finance Bill 2024. Listen in! His argument in context: 1. The Bill proposes to introduce excise duty on coal at 5% of the value or Ksh. 27,000 per metric ton, whichever is higher. Coal energy, unavailable in the Kenyan market accounts for about 45% of the variable cost of production of clinker, which provides cement with its binding qualities. Coal prices currently average Ksh 19,500 per metric ton and adding Ksh 27,000 per ton increases the cost by 139% and more than doubles the cost of coal. The immediate impact of this tax proposal will be an exponential increase in production cost of clinker that will lead to high cement costs – which would either bring the entire building and construction industry to a grinding halt or increase cement prices by about 43%. 2. The Bill proposes an Eco Levy which calls for an additional Ksh.150 per kilogram on plastic packaging. As signatories to Extended Producer Responsibility Schemes and the subsequent levy which requires us to pay to and fund packaging bags recycling across our operations, this levy is a duplication and equivalent to double taxation. It will directly increase the packaging cost of a 50 kg bag of cement from Ksh. 23.78/bag to Ksh. 37.41/bag; a 57.3% rise. These costs will be passed on to the customer. 3. Finally, the Bill recommends reducing taxes on imported clinker and cement. With the aforementioned excise duty on coal which makes it costlier for cement players to manufacture clinker and cement, Kenya will become a haven for foreign dumping by countries with subsidized energy (gas, electricity) and excess clinker and cement, at the expense of local manufacturers. #BamburiCement

We have partnered with document storage provider E-Manage Africa and biodiversity tech firm Seedballs Kenya to plant 13,000 trees at Haller Park through innovative seedballing technology. The 13,000 Seedballs are representative of the 13,000 boxes of paper retrieved from Bamburi Cement Plc operations in our race to paperless, automated, and green operations. The new forest cover, christened 'Forest Ecosafi' is our commitment to replenish the environment for posterity. Global production of paper stood at 415m tonnes in 2022 - and is projected to rise by 15% by 2032. This has far-reaching implications on the planet including energy consumption, waste problems, deforestation, and air pollution. #BamburiCement

Fact. Our analysis of women who have completed our Women on Wheels program and placed for truck driving opportunities demonstrates that, on average, women appear to be safer drivers. Fact. From this analysis, there's reason to believe that female driving habits can contribute to improved fuel consumption, less maintenance, and wear and tear, saving expenditures in the long run. Fact. We have been collaborating with our partners Isuzu East Africa and logistics partners to train and put more female truck drivers on the road. This is part of our gender mainstreaming strategy across our logistics value chain.  Tell a friend to tell a friend! #BamburiCement
