PORTLAND, Ore. — Even the roads couldn’t handle Monday’s record-breaking, 116-degree heat in the (wilted) Rose City.
The Portland Bureau of Transportation closed a section of North Denver Avenue when the afternoon heat apparently caused the roadway to rise up and crack.
Officials also closed nearby McLellan Street from Brandon and Fenwick avenues.
While the city said the cause of the crack is under investigation, it said it was likely caused by the heat.
There was no immediate word when the streets would be reopened.
