Kananaskis Country is home to a wide variety of creatures, great and small. Big ones, like bears and elk, get a lot of attention. Here’s your chance to take a quick look at some of the ones we pay less attention to. To make it easier to find them, we’ve broken them up into Mammals, Birds, Insects & Butterflies, and Amphibians. Just click on the images to meet them!

Wildlife Videos
The Friends are fortunate to have a great relationship with Alberta Parks’ Ecology Team. These folks manage some 400 cameras deployed in the wilderness, which are there to collect data for wildlife research. We publish one picture from these cameras each month in our newsletter. Our November newsletter annually is dedicated to our CRITTERPALOOZA! issue, where we publish about 60 of these amazing pictures!
In addition, some of these cameras take videos, notably the ones monitoring wildlife use of underpass crossing structures in the Bow Valley Corridor. And sometimes, if the Team is lucky, animals will do things in front of cameras where enough still images are collected that they in fact make an interesting stop-action movie.
